UMass Amherst class of 2024 Early Action Results

@closebutnocigar UMass is my daughters dream school, we are all hoping she will get in but it could go either way with her stats. The waiting is definitely not helping the anxiety but I am sure everything will work out in the end.

Anything this week? Predictions?

I am hoping / thinking either Monday or Tuesday!

my money’s on Thursday… but someone pointed out… last year they skipped this week, and released a batch on the 15th

I am hoping that was just an odd week last year - maybe technical issues - as I think there was mention of technical issues the following week last year. So hopefully there will be a batch this week.

With regards to my UMass decision… is it possible that I’m stuck in a weird purgatory of not being able to stand out as an applicant beyond my stats at the top schools I was straight rejected at (Cornell, CIT, MIT), but have schools like UMass assume I’d get into a school like those 3 and thus be yield protecting???

@derakiii33 I’m new at this college stuff, so I don’t know for sure, but you might be right. But, the way I see it, no school should assume that an applicant won’t attend based on their stats. Maybe you feel the other top schools aren’t a good fit for you, and that’s a personal choice. You know yourself better than an admissions counselor, so you, the applicant, should have the right of first refusal. I would think, based on your stats, they would have high hopes for you doing well at their school. I know it’s hard, but try to look at it that something better is waiting for you. Good luck!

a public school like umass couldn’t care less about yield protection… they over enroll basically every year, and they accept over 50% of the people who apply… for example, last year for the CS major, only around 20% of those accepted actually enrolled.

@derakiii33 have you tried calling admissions and simply asking why? If you haven’t done so already, it’s certainly worth a try.

Do people think decisions will come out today?

Does anyone know how many students get into the honors college?

Rejected from CHC. It’s not the end of the world - I imagine there are tons of students equally, if not more qualified to get into the honors college. I am curious about how many spots there are and if a pre-determined number of them are for in-state students (as would be expected).

@TwoFabKids our family specifically toured the CHC with my older child… they basically said that their main goal is to have a spread across different schools and majors… and if it were all stat based… the CHC would be nothing but Nurses and CS majors…

they also mentioned items like wanting some number of in-state, out of state, international… and qualities that would create a diverse and well balanced env…
they never mentioned any kind of hard numbers

@miscparentname thank you! That’s helpful. Mine is a public health major (pre-med track).

I am really, really hoping they release a batch of decisions today. I am wearing my UMass sweatshirt - maybe that will help!

Guess there is always tomorrow…

Very disappointing. I just want to be done with it.

I know, same here.

So is it likely to come out tomorrow ? or this week even ? i’m confused

@AlexHerrera They said in a tweet that results would be released weekly. None last week. Last year there was a 3 week gap between Dec 26-Jan 15th when no decisions were released. Someone mentioned a glitch last yr so who knows.

Basically no one really knows and admissions dept’s own responses aren’t always accurate.

I asked questions on twitter recently but none were answered. They referred me to sending an email to admissions dept.

From previous comments reply to phone calls regarding release of results are met with “I don’t know”.

Pretty sad.

It seems cruel to drag things out like this.
