I would encourage not to give up those kids who have heard from other schools and mentally put UMass Amherst on the bottom of their list because of the end of January decision. There are plenty of other strong schools in the same bucket. For example, RPI, an excellent STEM school, just an hour or so away, will release their EA decisions on January 29th. The difference between two schools is that RPI decided to release all decisions at once while UMA releases decisions in waves, which is hugely helpful for early waves and stressful for late waves.
I donāt disagree, however, it really depends where you apply. My child applied to 10+ schools EA and has heard back from every single one except UMass by weeks. I think thereās something to be said for schools that notify early like Nov/Dec as it gets kids excited and interested and by the time they hear from others they may not be so excited for them anymore. Weāre not ruling UMass out at this point BUT weāve gotten so much communication from other schools the last couple of months so hard to get past that.
I agree with you LAM2 - the excitement factor is important. However, itās not as tomorrow UMA will ask the kid to come in for an interview and the kid is not motivated enough to deliver the best performance. Once there is a positive decision, there will be 3 months to decide so everything could change, especially if you still need to do campus visits. Congrats on multiple acceptances!

Waitlisted for nursing. Had put a second major on application, but nothing said about that
Good luck to everyone today!
Good luck to you ā their nursing program is extremely competitive, so being placed on the waitlist is not something to be disappointed about. I was unfortunately rejected (chemistry OOS). I assume youāre in state by your username?
