UMass Amherst Class Of 2026 EA

Not sure. If they had a lot more applications this year like they said, I hope they took that into account in the yield calculation. Since people are applying to a lot more colleges than before, their yield will definitely be lower. If they did not account for this, we will see them dip into the waitlist quite a bit.

45000 applications received for 5350 spots.
Read through, they are encouraging to join an admitted school by May 1st national deadline.

Daughter denied Nursing. Not a shocker, but the waiting seemed quite prolonged!
I appreciate all the info this group provided. Good luck to everyone! :v:

Yup, my son was waitlisted. So disappointing.

For Fall 2021 they waitlisted 4,056, and 1,055 waitlisted students were admitted, according to their Common Data Set.

That is fairly encouraging, however, I am wondering how major plays into those numbers!

same here. doesn’t really make sense. maybe they don’t want to accept all these impressive kids who will ultimately go somewhere else?

Is there a sense of what the waitlists were by major? and last year …

This is all so weird. My son applied to CS. He got accepted but into Comp Engineering rather than comp sci. Solid merit. But some comp sci are waitlisted for comp so rather than admitted to a different major. He did put comp eng as second choice but I still find it odd. His stats are worse than some who were waitlisted for comp sci. Very strange. Good essay?

I think recently CE is less in demand than CS among students. Slightly different focus. I think job prospects could be broadly similar, although on the margin there may be some differences. CE is more hard ware oriented. CS is not. But I suspect no CS courses will be out of bounds for the CE major.

Yeah, I understand that, but why accept some students directly into their second choice while others are waitlisted for their first. What was the second choice for those 1500+ SAT kids who got waitlisted I wonder?

I don’t think acceptances are determined only by stats. Your overall package must be stronger than the other people that were waitlisted. It is also possible those other people don’t have a second choice listed.

Your sons stats pls

Complete yield protection with those stats!

1410 SAT, 3.7UW, 4.21W (but 4.5 junior year). I think a great creative essay but I am not an AO. Decent EC- lettered in track and XC, etc. 150+ community service hours.

and only 2361 accepted place on waiting list out of the 4K

does anyone knows if demonstrated interest plays a role for admission into umass amherst?

I’ve read that it is considered.

Admitted for CS. OOS. 1550 SAT, 11 APs, 2 DE, 4.4 GPA (3.9 UW). Lots of CS ECs. $16k Scholarship. Feel lucky in seeing other high stat kids waitlisted (our instate school also wait lists high stat kids assuming its a safety).

Not sure but my son was accepted without any demonstrated interest to speak of (no tours, etc)…
