Do you or @HelloMommy happen to know how many students are in the PAT program?
When we visited I think they said the current PAT program was around 70 students total. They said they aim to have a cohort of 20 per year on average, so likely admit around 25 with the goal of achieving that number. Sometimes it ends up being only 15 or so. All of this was conveyed by a student, so not sure how accurate/up-to-date the info is!
Thank you. This is hugely helpful. My son emailed SMTD admissions yesterday and they wrote back but oddly didn’t answer his question!
I should add that we had the opportunity to attend a PAT Seminar when we were there. My understanding is that the PAT Seminar is a .5 credit requirement that students take all 8 semesters with guest speakers, performers, etc. We were invited to sneak in after the interview was done. Most of the students were clustered in the back few rows LOL, so we had to sit towards the front. But, I remember thinking “this doesn’t look like 70 students”. I thought it seemed more like 40, but I may be horrible at estimating. Also, there may have been legitimate reasons not all students were there, like helping out for audition weekend, etc.
Folks at SMTD PAT wrote me and shared the following (admissions also wrote my son separately). Tracks to what @HelloMommy said —
Hi there! The incoming first-year class is normally in the range of 15-20 students, so we have about 70 undergraduate PAT majors at any given time. On top of that, we have 8-10 graduate students. For context, we currently have 7 full-time professors, 2 full-time lecturers and 1-2 part-time instructors. So a very healthy faculty-student ratio. We’re expecting to add 2 new professors in the Fall as well. If you have any other questions, feel free to reach out to our chair, Prof. Sile O’Modhrain at sileo@umich.edu – that’s usually the best way to get a quick response.
Hi all, has anyone heard from Michigan yet about merit funds?
Just checked old messages. last year u Michigan didn’t send SMTD merit offer until late march. It wasn’t easy to communicate with them.
Thank you so much for responding! The only reason I asked was because they state on the website that they might be able to stick to their traditional timeline since they use the CSS. Would you be willing to share how much merit money your student was offered? Send private message if you’re willing to share.
Nothing official yet. The professor is very kind and keeps us unformed that he doesn’t have anything yet to report, but he will let us know if he hears anything. It is my son‘s first choice so we’re definitely eager for information.
We’re waiting too! Definitely anxious about it as I hear they don’t tend to give a lot
We were told merit max 20.
Thanks!
Wonder how many people get that!
DD got some nice stickers and a flag In the post today - nice touch but would love it if she hears about merit now ……
Same!
Got that envelope on Monday!
But waiting on merit is driving us crazy- especially after VERY disappointing merit news from Frost
Hello, thread! Contacted SMTD and learned that merit offers are supposed to be released mid-week next week. Check your portal. They’ve been updated to state that you’ve received a scholarship with a “confirm” button. I’m assuming an email will go out, but that’s where your merit info will appear once finalized.
@TigerLily52 thank you for doing this and sharing the info!
hi should the button appear now? D24 is wiatong to see if she has been admitted rto LSA too no update yet
Was this from music admissions? I just curious where you heard.
My son heard from the professor on Thursday that he would receive his merit offer on 3/28.
