UMichigan Ann Arbor EA Class of 2021 Applicants

@UofMichigan1999 you’re wrong in thinking that they don’t though.

technically they aren’t allowed to use it but umich is really proud when they increase their percentage of underrepresented minorities

Although it’s not the best, affirmative action is still in the back of most admissions minds. No one would ever be rejected for just being Asian or white, but if a Native American and a white person have the exact same stats, race might come into factor so that they could get their diversity ratings up.

^i think affirmative action does a lot to help:/. Diversity is a good thing.

@nasoth Yes of course! Sorry if I made it sound like I didn’t like it. But that’s usually why race comes into play

sorry this may be repetitive but are we all thinking tomorrow around 3 or 4pm?

yes

I doubt UMich would be willing to have another affirmative action law suit against them that goes to the supreme court ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gratz_v._Bollinger ). Even if they, as individual humans, support affirmative action, they would not risk it and just pick the best choice.
And diversity is not solely a racial topic. Diversity can come in forms of sports you play, people (even gender) you love, activities and passions you pursue, political stances, career goals (i.e. your major), and music you jam out to on a daily! I totally think UMich would be better off with more people with different backgrounds (to be fair, I am biased- I’m Indian!), but there are other ways to create diversity.

Does anyone know the order in which Michigan typically releases decisions (region, status of decision, etc)? I’m from NY and wondering if I should expect a decision tomorrow or closer to Saturday.

my school is 30 min from umich and a top 5 feeder and always starts receiving decisions the first day they come out but i heard not everyone from my school received their decision on the first day so idk for sure how they do it. according to last year’s class of 2020 early action thread, some out of state people got their decision on the first day too. you can ask people from your school who applied to umich last year to get a general idea when they received their decisions.

@UofMichigan1999 EVERY college admissions process incorporates “diversity” of ALL sorts -geographic, racial, gender, etc. The list of considerations is HUGE. In fact, the largest single beneficiary group is males which are in decline in higher education. It may not be talked about openly but it is there. Always. It’s one of those things -whether you’re for it or against it, it’s there.

Last year people from my school heard back the 18th at 7pm. Do you know if that was the first day decisions were released? Thank you for the helpful information @Eeeee127 !!

@imurray yes the 18th was the first day

If accepted and awarded merit scholarships (the ones that do not require applications and are based off o your admissions application), do you hear about that when you are accepted or later? (I realize that those are rare, but still curious)

Hasn’t been confirmed on by the admissions council themselves directly so I wouldn’t get too comfortable with that time. If anything, I am kinda getting used to the suspense, and maybe even starting to like it.

@enginero i think you get them after you are accepted, and some scholarships are only given to students who are admitted early action

Just wondering what my chances are for getting in-
GPA 5.3 uw 3.8 w
Class Rank- 24 of 433
ACT-28
Taken 5 AP classes: calc, lit, Lang, psych, bio
All other class were either honors or accelerated

I’m in NHS, NSHSS, do volunteering at the cancer center, did varsity track and cross country my sophomore and freshman years, also I do many things in music including multiple bands and jazz groups and I am in the Milwaukee youth symphony orchestra along with the Wisconsin state honors band, I also work part time.

did anyone else apply for Screen Arts & Culture? It sucks that they didn’t accept film portfolios tho

For some reason I applied undeclared into LSA, is it any easier to get in undeclared? I’m just trying to figure out why I did that…

@BreadedPrincess It says undeclared on the website for every person because you don’t declare a major in LSA until sophomore year i believe
