does anyone else feel like a lot of the people posting stats are almost overqualified? Like tell me there are other students who were mid in high school and locked in for a semester at college. Theres gotta be some of us ■■■■■
Yeah I have seen some on other platforms like Reddit. Some students are just crazy involved in everything but I’m not sure if you can necessarily be “overqualified” at UNC since it’s super competitive. Who knows tho
There’s probably a volunteer bias or something with ppl posting stats. I wouldn’t measure yourself against it. It’s a lot about your story too so your not alone even seeing 1/2 of their applications
I wonder how many students apply through C-STEP? I don’t understand how it all works since my CC doesn’t offer that program. But like… there’s gotta be certain qualifications like a 4.0 GPA or certain coursework.
yea, not overqualified. I just mean that surely people with less to boast will be able to get in.
I had a 3.3 weighted, 3.0 unweighted in HS. I had like 4 F’s senior year (I graduated peak covid, I was going through tough times).
I’m applying to transfer (as a junior) from CC with a 4.0 college GPA. 3 internships, I work as a peer mentor, volunteer, 5 recommendation letters (havent read them but they should be good).
I’m applying to the professional school of dental hygiene, so idk what my chances are but I’m praying they dont hold my HS transcript against me. I am a C-STEP student, but C-STEP only guarentees admission to the college of arts and sciences, not professional schools, so while I’m not in the same boat as many of you all, In a way I’m still nervous since dental hygiene school is my dream.
Oh yeah definitely. The essays are super important so if you speak from the heart, I’m sure they’ll see past grades and other stats
Good luck to you! Their dental school is one of the best in the country, so that’d be awesome if you could get in! Seems like you’ve made major improvement since HS, so I think you have a pretty good chance
I wasn’t crazy great in high school. I only made a’s and b’s but applying to unc my senior year I only had like a 4.0-4.1 weighted which isn’t great for first year applicants. My senior year I was able to bring it up to like a 4.2 but ofc unc doesn’t look at that if you’re rejected. I’ve seen that if you’re a junior transfer that they do not put much weight at all on your hs stats and that if you’re a sophomore transfer then they do slightly more but still not nearly as much as when applying in hs. As long as you have somewhat of an upward trend I think that you’re a strong applicant.

I just tried to make one, said I was ineligible. I think that used to be a hack to see if you got in early but doesn’t work now. If I remember correctly it got fixed 2 years ago
