UNC Chapel Hill Class of 2024 Regular Decision

This may be a dumb question but does anyone know how ordering a laptop with the CCI grant works? Is it automatically applied when you checkout on the UNC tech website?

@teapotgirl13579 don’t forgot travel costs. We live in Va and my older DD goes to school in CT. 8 - 10 hour drive depending on traffic around NYC. Hard to get home. With all the craziness in the world right now, being close to home isn’t a bad thing. I’m from High Point and went to UNC. I rarely went home, but was glad it was close when I needed to go home. My younger DD will be a freshman at Chapel Hill. Glad she will only be 3 hours away vs. 8 - 10.

Question about housing – my DD just decided on UNC and is looking for roomies on campus, not Granville Towers. Just FYI, if you pledge sorority/fraternity, you have to sign up for their meal plans and you are still paying for meals at Granville.

Anyway, I’m an alum and lived in Spencer/McIver. My niece graduated 4 years ago and lived in Alderman, but most freshman lived in South Campus. Housing changed recently and allow freshman to live on part or North Campus, but is now called Olde Campus Lower Quad and includes Graham (boys) , Aycock (girls) and co-ed Lewis, Everett and Stacy). . The other freshman dorms are on South Campus: Craige, Ehringhaus, Hinton James (HoJo) Manning East (Koury, Horton)

I don’t know if incoming freshman realize they can live on Olde Campus which is way more central to most of the campus, Franklin St. and many sororities. But most of the kids in the facebook group and on instagram are either looking to Granville or South Campus. Am I missing something? https://housing.unc.edu/residents/future-residents/first-year-students

@yourmama99, I think for freshman they are choosing Granville if they are interested in Greek life. South campus is appealing for freshman because that’s where all the freshman are. I think it is also appealing because it is suite style vs the hall style dorms on the North campus. My DD lived at Ehringhaus her freshman year and loved it, she did complain that the walk was long and hilly though.

@slngbld when did your DD go there? I think they just allowed freshman to live in “olde campus” the past couple of years.

@all waitlisted kids, if any of yall are writing LOCIs do you know where to send them. I can’t find an email for the office of admissions except the help/questions email.

@caligirl202 unchelp@admissions.unc.edu you will get a reply in a couple of days

@yourmama99 She is a sophomore now.

@yourmama99 Thanks! Its awesome to get a perspective from someone who knows the community so well. My only concern is that if I send it to the help email then itll get swept up in all the questions about applications and acceptances that other people send. Thats why I was searching for another email I could possibly send it to. But I guess thats the only option right?

I’m struggling to choose between UNC, Hopkins, and Rice. unc is significantly cheaper than either of them. I’m thinking about doing bme or neuroscience (possibly pre-med) - any advice or thoughts on the pros/cons of the schools?

Is cost an issue?
Med school can cost 200-300K. If you’re going to med school, I’d try not to go into debt for undergrad. So I’d choose UNC.

So excited to be part of the c/o 2024!!!

My daughter got accepted RD but did not get any institutional aid. She is OOS and basically we have to pay full price.
