UNC-Chapel Hill Early Action 2016

Congrats! My daughter accepted as well. Her first choice, now we need $$$$

9incher: Umm…there are engineering majors, but there are just not that many as NCSU. They offer Biomedical (my major I got accepted), Environmental, and Computer. It’s hard to find in the website, but look under applied sciences.

Accepted! (w/ nomination for Pogue Scholarship)
OOS student
SAT: 2320 (780 CR + W, 760 Math)
4.35 GPA
11 AP classes total
Decent ECs

Congrats to everyone else who got in!

Accepted + scholarship day!
In-state, 2380 SAT, 4.0 UW/5.2 W GPA, reasonable ECs, good essays

Rejected.
and I feel so dismal about it.
OOS, 1840 (660 M 580 CR 600 W) (bad I know, but not awful, right?)
3.85 UW and a 5.3 W GPA (yes, I’m salutatorian)
Solid EC’s and great essays. WHAT was wrong?
I really liked UNC chapel Hill. This is so disappointing.
Should I email, would anything change their minds? :(

ACCEPTED!!!
Soooo happy right now I cannot explain this feeling! I was deferred at Notre Dame, so I didn’t have high expectations for this one, but I’m so happy!

I had 30 ACT, 3.65 UW GPA and 4.25 W GPA, 150/3552 in my county, really good essays, and good extra-curriculars. I’m also OSS

Accepted!!!

@johazy
Same here, got rejected. Similar SAT score 1820(630M 620CR 570W)
4.4 weighted gpa and very good EC’s/Essay.

Getting in OOS is extremely difficult. I think it seems like with OOS it is very contingent on the SAT scores more so than anything else.

…Rejected?!
OOS student.

2250 (800, 650, 800), 790 Lit, 760 US History, 3.75 UW GPA, good EC’s, good essays and recs.
Already accepted at UChicago, Michigan, and Emory as an Emory Scholars semifinalist.

I’m confused, but I can live with it. OOS admissions are crazy, as everyone always says. Congrats to all accepted, good luck to all deferred, and to those in my boat, other schools will take us! :)

wow lovesbrown, those are some awesome stats, wasn’t meant to be

johazy, move on. Your oos stats just aren’t what they want. instate you would have been fine. move on, unc is nice school, but not the be all end all.

Decision: deferred.
out of state
white female

ACT:33
GPA: UW 3.86, W 4.53
One really good recommendation, one average rec
Internship at NIH for past year and a half
Strong essays

ACCEPTED!
2130 (740M 740R 650W) sat II’s 740 Math 2 and 670 Lit 3.99 GPA out of 4 and 19 out of 571 class rank and oos, lots of ec’s (including tons of volunteer, honor society and 3 season varsity athlete) SOOOOO EXCITED AND COMPLETELY SHOCKED

Accepted. In shock, really, compared to some of the stats you guys have.

OOS, 33 ACT, 2250 SAT. 5.765 GPA, ranked 1/500. Potentially controversial essay, no idea about my recs. Good ecs, but nothing like building a school in Africa. Oh, and NMSF, but no other major awards really. Congrats to all who got in!

Rejected. 4.3 W, 141/500 class rank, 3.1 W.

Rejected. 4.3 W, 141/500 class rank, 3.1 UW.

Talk about feeling dismal. I feel like my future just toppled down on me. I wanted to improve my mind, synapses and such, whatever leads to intelligence at an intellectually stimulating environment, but now… I don’t know what I will do anymore…

For so long, I’ve been afflicted with delusions of grandeur, delusions of me doing something worthwhile… now it’s just depressing.

I feel like my “dreams/delusions,” whatever you call them, are distant. I wanted to be an effect on society, but I just don’t see that happening anymore. My dreams aren’t even near the tip of my tongue.

I guess I will look at NC State, but the whole environment doesn’t seem very intellectual… I don’t know. I really don’t know what to do anymore. Depressing.

Edit: Sorry for double post

Decision: ACCEPTED - OOS
Stats:
ACT: 30; English- 35, Reading-32; Math-26; Science- 27
SAT: 1910 (680 CR 570M 660W)
SAT IIs: None (I didn’t apply to any Ivies so i didn’t take them)
GPA: 3.62/4 UW; 4.19 Weighted
Rank: N/A

Other stats: National Achievement Semifinalist

AP EXAMS: 5 AP Biology, 4 AP US History, 4 AP Euro, 3 AP English and Composition, 1 AP French (did not send)

Subjective:
Essays: I think my long essay was decent. I talked about how i felt as if my 3 on my AP English exam made me a failure because I knew i could do so much better; but then i discussed how i didn’t let it hinder me and ruin my life.

ECs: LOTS OF SPORTS (i’m a total athlete) 4 years Varsity Basketball and Volleyball (Multiple honors); 2 years Track Team (state qualifier both years); travel volleyball two years (wrote my short essay about this); also in NHS, Mu Alpha Theta, and President of the French National Honor Society

Weakness- Not a lot of spectacular volunteering, like doctors offices and what not (no time really!)

Teacher Recs: One from my English teacher who i spent a LOT of private time with but i
wasn’t the greatest student so…i’m going to say decent as best.
Counselor Rec: probably amazing…i have a very friendly personality that she knows about

Hook(if any): I’m African American and I’m from Alabama (I would think that’d be an under-represented state?); wrote one of my essays about my struggles with racism.

Location/Person:
State or Country: AL
School Type: One of the most elite magnet schools in the nation (at least 15 people get into ivies every year)
Ethnicity: African American
Gender: Female
Other Factors: I have two younger siblings (10 and 1)
General Comments:
I hope there is some way I can afford UNC…it’s my #1. It’d be so nice to escape from the struggles I endure in the south and not end up at some typical in state, predominately football-focused school.

accepted!!!

Out of state, 4.84W gpa, 33 ACT (35 superscore), lots of ec’s/leadership roles, 7 APs, CANNOT WAIT!!!

deferred… OOS 2180 sat, 3.92 UW, 4.94 W, 7 AP’s, okay EC’s, okay essays, good recs

Accepted!

28 ACT (31 English, 24 Math, 32 Reading, 26 Science, 30 English/Writing combined)
7 AP’s & lots of honors
Two really good recommendations & decent essays.
EC’s: Orchestra (President), Dance company, NAACP, Cross Country, Spanish Honor Society (Vice President), National Honor Society, Principal’s Executive Committee, Future Business Leader’s of America
Quite a bit of community service
