Parent of EA OOS applicant here. Received a letter today acknowledging our kid’s application. Was a bit disconcerting since it came in a thin envelope and started out the first paragraph like it was a rejection letter. Anyway, i understand all EA applicant parents receive this and it is just procedural at UNC Chapel Hill…but still. In 2025, how is that worth the postage to send it? And why?
Looking at prior year threads, this letter means nothing - UNC unlikely letter? - #50 by Ae1231

Dear Parent or Guardian:
On behalf of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, I write to express our gratitude for [redacted’s] decision to apply for admission to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. We’re fortunate at Carolina to have the interest of many smart and good-hearted students, and we appreciate the opportunity to get to know [redacted].
As we begin to review applications submitted by our early action applicants, we want to provide some insights about our application review process. When we review an application, we don’t rely on a formula. Instead, we consider each student individually and comprehensively, paying special attention to their range of academic achievements, contributions to their community, and impact on friends and family. We appreciate the time and effort that students put into applying for admission, and we work diligently to treat each applicant with care.
We’re grateful that [redacted] is considering Carolina. If we can help answer any questions while [redacted] is waiting to hear from us, please contact our office. Our admissions officers would be happy to help.
