TYPO! Meant RD, fixed it.

OK, the cake is baked. Let it cool down a bit.

My son was a finalist. He did not get the M-C but you are right about 33-40% do. I haven’t heard of a finalist not getting in but they stress that the selection board is separate. Have heard of semi finalist not getting in.

I know
it really doesn’t make any sense.

Does UNC announce any scholarships with admission? I applied to the Robertson but I’m not as familiar with the actual UNC scholarships.

I think some are given with acceptance if they are department and some are later.

UNC does not have any portal astrology, because they “shut down” the portal when about to release, some people were saying that you can create an ONYEN before admission in the past years thread, but I believe those had been fixed, and you can only create it after enrollment now.

Same here. No news yet from Robertson. The timeline says HS semi-finalists interviews will be held mid-Feb. Not sure when invitations go out for those interviews. Wonder if those are by zoom or in-person?

One thing that has us wondering if the speculation that UNC will release earlier than the end of the month is that currently applicants can still upload “Additional Information” within the portal. I would think that feature disappearing would be a sign results are coming soon.

It has to be kept on for RD people.

I saw that interview invites go out the week of 2/12 and at the end of the week they let you know if you didn’t move on.

Me and my friend are thinking they will probably release it next Friday, on 26th, since they have done this for years(release on last Friday of Jan), also, I believe when decision about to come(around like 1 or 2pm on that day), the portal will change for decision release.

But not sure if it will be the same time this year since we saw around 5k more applicants applied EA this year

This is what I am thinking too. I don’t think 5k is enough of an increase to delay it at such a big school like UNC. They have enough staff to handle everything.

Hi, I was hoping to get a chancing estimate please?
Out of State
GPA: 4.587W, 4.0UW
Class Rank: 1 (fairly competitive HS)
SAT: 1410 (submitted)
ECs: Developed an app for my school, Student Council president, Math Honor society founder and president, History Honor society founder and president, did independent research, writer for a fairly well-read website covering the Baltimore Ravens, 130+ service hours
Major: Computer Science
13 APs taken (including a 5 on CSA)
 rest of classes were honors
Rensselaer Medal, RIT Computing Award, Seal of Biliteracy, AP Capstone Diploma
No legacy, but lots of contact with an admissions officer (not sure if that matters)
Thanks so much!

1st in your class? Of course you have a shot. The Comp Sci major may increase the difficulty however. With the UNC OOS acceptance rate being what it is, I’m never surprised at the outcomes.

Yup, and I think they will feel free to have a cut “deny” GPA or something that makes it quick. Wondering if oos are a lot of the added applicants.

Anyone know if when they decide they look at all applications from the same high school at once?

A shot? Yes. Your test score is going to be the sticking point, I think. And the fact that the oos admit rate will be around 6% this year.

With 13 APs shouldn’t your GPA be even higher?

No, my school is a Catholic school so we have to take theology every year. The problem is that they only offer theology classes as on-level courses, no honors option until senior year (which I’m taking). We also have to take PE and fine arts, which are also only offered as on-level courses. That’s what drags down the GPA, but I’m hoping that comes across in the school report!

Yeah, there are probably cut GPAs at around the 3.7 UW range I would guess. The probably won’t review those holisticly unless they have extra time.

This is the same way at my school. My counselor told me they are aware and it won’t hurt you in the review.
