UNC Chapel Hill Early Action for Fall 2024 Admissions

last year Robertson interviews were by Zoom with finalist in person. The interviews for semifinalist were about 2 weeks after acceptance. UNC gives out a full ride scholarship called the presidents scholarship

Thanks for the insight - any idea when kids were first notified if they were indeed semifinalists?
I imagine it’s sometime in January…Robertson site says that you need to have applied to either Duke/UNC by the early or Regular decision deadlines (for UNC RD deadline was January 15), and semifinalist interviews are supposed to be mid Feb. Logic would mean that some kind of decisions should be coming out this week or next?

I think my essays were really good!!

I applied test optional. I also have gotten into Auburn, University of San Francisco (with 90k), South Florida, Clemson, South Carolina, Charleston, and Wilmington. I got deferred from Harvard and UGA so holding out hope!

I think you have a pretty good chance considering you are in state. But I feel like you should have gotten into UGA, so there might be something holding you back a bit.

Are you from a rural county? Chances are much better if you are not from a metro area.

I feel like the consensus here has been that EA results come out this Friday. But I saw 1/31 on the Carolina website here.

It says 1/31, not by 1/31. So I guess not this week. Thoughts?

They typically release earlier than their published date. ā€œUnderpromise and overdeliverā€ is a good strategy.

yea UGA was test required and my scores were not at all competitive so I think that was it. I also heard OOS acceptance for EA was like 8% and they only looked at scores + grades for EA due to short time

I’m like right outside of Charlotte in a town called concord. Like 100,000 people but clt is 900,000

If you don’t get in, it’s because you were test optional and not in the top 10% of your class.

I feel like your chances are pretty good – esp being from NC. I’m curious what your major is and how you talked about intellectual curiosity. I feel like your ECs demonstrate leadership and consistent involvement in school activities. Being a Coca-Cola Scholarship Semi-finalist indicates holistic strength to me – so I feel like you have a solid chance. Stats are important, but I feel like essays and recs play a real role in determining a yes or no at schools that are test optional. It’s hard to weigh that in with what you can share here. <3 Good luck!

Last year it stated decisions would be released 1/31 but they were released the Friday before. :crossed_fingers:

Possibly! Very few people now submit scores though and I was 12% so I’m hoping it is close enough …

Something tells me you are a pretty amazing, well rounded person and you will succeed wherever you go! Chapel Hill would be lucky to have you!

Test optional should never affect a decision negativelyā˜ŗļø

Right, but without being in the top 10% and a GPA below the average there, a test score could help. The extracurriculars will. It’s all a crapshoot honestly! Friend’s son who was one of the valedictorians at his school didn’t get in.

Yep. Total crapshoot. Daughter applied OOS and was on the fence about submitting test scores. She’s 6 out of 515 in class rank, with 4.0uw/5.0w. She just assumed if you don’t submit test scores that an admission office would assume they weren’t good. She scored a 30 in the ACT (only took test once), which is in the 93rd percentile (traditionally) and would have been considered a really good score 7-10 years ago. She ended up submitting the score because she’s an English Lit major and she scored a 36 in English and a 34 in Reading. It’s part of her story as an English major and it shows what her passion is. If UNC wants their English majors to be good testers in math and science, then she won’t get in. She wrote a fantastic personal statement about her journey to loving literature. Her hope is her love of lit shows as a big theme in her app.

It’s my belief that for schools that do thorough holistic app reviews, they really want to see what your passion is, what makes you tick. If you can show them, maybe it lessens the impact of what one scored on a 4 hour test on a random Sat afternoon. Jmo, though.

Good luck to all the applicants!

anyone know how hard it is to get into the Global Launch program compared to just a regular acceptance on campus?
