UNC Chapel Hill Early Action for Fall 2024 Admissions

The holistic review considers far more than class rank. Countless valedictorians apply to elite colleges. What distinguishes them from the rest of the valedictorians who are applying?

I think you have a great shot - in state, well rounded, can contribute to your school community, and you already have family there.

Yeah, I think it’ll be easier just worried about how much because I really would not mind doing it and would probably like it. I have 1470 and 4.0 uw so hoping they consider me for it before possibly waitlisting/rejecting me.

Agree!! Makes no sense!!! Hate it’s become this way!

Agree!! I truly believe they cannot have a school made up of pure academics! They have got to be well rounded. I have twin sophomores there now and were very well rounded…sports captains, presidents, 4.39, submitted no scores, volunteers, ect. Instate helped! They got in early. I still have faith UNC looks holistically šŸ©µšŸ

Agree!!! Like all, nerves are high! Thanks for your input! Good luck! :ram:

Glad to hear this! I have a similar kid - 4.42 GPA, 10 AP classes, captain of sport and longevity in club version of it, coach, did submit a 33 ACT, top 10% of class, in state wrote compelling, well written essays. And she’s still sweating it. Kids are a wreck this week!

Yes it’s terrible. I have my third and final waiting ! There’s no rhyme or reason! Good luck to her! It’s a great place!

Did anyone apply to early assurance health care policy and management, or biostats? I selected these instead of a major as OOS and im wondering how hard it is to get in thru this major. Health policy was my number one choice

I believe even if you dont get into those majors, u still have a chance to get in CAS, you just have to reapply for majors

Are intended majors a heavy factor in decisions for admission? I am out of state and very nervous about getting in, but the major I’ve applied for isn’t one of their most popular. I don’t know if I should feel safer as a result of that though.

Intended majors are not a consideration.

Does anyone know if HS counselors have received an update about EA results release for UNC Chapel Hill?

No, you don’t declare a major upon application.

Yes, but in state for UNC is a 40% admit rate, so not like the elite level of oos, and it’s generally considered if you’re in the top 10% of the class, you’ll likely get in. Their common data set certainly says GPA and class rank are highly important. This school is a mile from UNC and there are 40+ valedictorians each year, so my guess is they didn’t compare well to them. They were offered guaranteed admittance the next year for a transfer, which is also strange.

This is my first kid, completely clueless here. Does anyone know how Granville Towers works if your kid gets accepted? Can you put a deposit down immediately or do you need to show enrollment first? Also, how does UNC’s on-campus housing for freshmen work? Is it based on the enrollment deposit date? or application date?

I don’t think HS counselors get updates on that from any school (so far as I know).

It is more common that you might think. A lot of schools have a counselor mailing list or the counselors have great relationships with the AOs and can get inside info when they will come out.

All that – plus sometimes they schedule meetings to present general information to help counselors see data points and trends from that particular admissions group.

well, at least from former experience its coming out less than 2 days, so we can all just wait to see if anything happens Friday afternoon

UNC posted tik tok that said to film a video of your acceptance reaction. Is this a sign?
