UNC Chapel Hill Early Action for Fall 2024 Admissions

Does anyone know if Global Launch is offered as an option even if you don’t apply to it? I thought you had to do a specific application to that program. My OOS daughter really wants UNC but doesn’t want GL. Thanks!

Right, great for some, not so much for others. The did get to indicate their interest or not on the application though.

That’s a good question. My guess is that they ask about interest on the application to give them an idea of whether that offer would be worthwhile to extend to a student under certain circumstances (along with following up after admission with students who indicated interest).

Thanks for sharing your son’s story. This whole college admissions situation gets built up into a frenzy, but at the end of the day, what they do and accomplish while in undergrad, and their health and happiness, are more important than where they go. App is still high on my D’s list even if she gets into UNC, and I’d be happy with either choice. App is a really beautiful place, and my D loves the mountains so we shall see.

I kind of like not having a defer option, as it just prolongs the whole emotional rollercoaster, ie - you weren’t admitted, but there’s a chance, at least you weren’t denied, however what shot do I really have to get in (slim, none, a little, no shot), etc… Between myself, my wife and DS, we’ve all taken the Deferral differently…

My DS has three offers, one deferral, and seven we’re waiting to hear back from, several of which will probably be Denials which we’ve kind of mentally prepared for, a few safety schools for some good vibes, etc…

Good luck to everyone!!!

While they would definitely miss football season, they would still get about half of the basketball season. I think the Global Launch program seems super cool. I am hoping my son gets admitted and selected for it.

I found this wording on the Global Launch pages:

If we are not able to offer you a spot in the fall class, expressing interest in the program means you will be considered for this opportunity to study abroad during the fall semester and then have guaranteed enrollment at Carolina for the spring semester.

If offered a place in Carolina Global Launch, you will be eligible for financial aid for the spring semester in Chapel Hill. Financial aid is not available for the fall semester while you are studying abroad. Limited one-time scholarships are available for Carolina Global Launch, and we’ll automatically consider you for these based on your application for admission.

If you scroll to the bottom of your portal, you can tell if you selected it or not on application, and if so for what cities.

Did your son express interest? My daughter started to but backed out. Her rationale – she wants to be an RA wherever she goes to school and wants to experience the traditional freshman experience to help her prepare for that. It really is an intriguing opportunity.

My son selected Seoul, Granada and Stirling.

He did. He traveled to Japan in June with a group from his high school, so this seemed like a really exciting opportunity to him.

I did Seoul, Granada, and nothing else.

Great opportunity for some. At least it’s not the 2+2 PSU option…

CC is super strict about what they will put up. It has to be posted on the website for them. But it will be today because of info sent to counselors and stuff.

My son expressed interest - we’ve traveled a lot and he wouldn’t mind starting abroad.
At any of his schools where that was an option, he indicated a willingness as he figured that might improve his chances.

I just called admissions to get an idea as to time today and she responded with “not sure where you are hearing it’s today because we tell everyone the last week of January and we never will confirm a specific date or time” she must have been asked that a zillion times today!
