Top 9% of the class

General question, where do sophomores typically live at UNC? My son was selected for Global Launch this fall, so dorms in the Spring. I’m slightly concerned about Fall of 2025 if he is out of the country when students are locking in housing for the following year. Thanks

I have same question! My son is prob doing GL (Costa Rica).

My unrelated concern w/ GL was if it would impact getting the pre-req’s for acceptance to the Kenan-Flagler undergraduate business major.

He is choosing between UGA, which admits you directly to the Terry School, or UNC, in which you apply to biz major after first year with a ~50% acceptance rate.

I think most of the courses offered in GL fall into the elective category. It’s a 3 month vacation in another country with a bit of education thrown in

Does anyone know how UNC recalculates HS GPA?

I don’t think they do.

According to the CDS, the average HS GPA for the incoming students in the fall 2022 was 4.47

I don’t know for sure but that’s probably the average of weighted GPAs submitted. Our hs doesn’t weight GPA so UNC may have used a weighting formula (eg commonly +1 for AP and +.5 for honors).

Agreed. I think it’s the average of weighted grades. I don’t think they have time to re-average grades for all of their applicants.

I happy to see they finally posted the CDS. That’s fairly recent - I’ve been checking off and on. During application season, I ended up emailing the OIRA asking when 2022-2023 would be posted and was told they were reconsidering how to present the data and had no end date in mind. That puzzled me a little – because the questions are pretty standard. I do think they’ve changed the language a little in places.

This bugged me as well. They were one of the few that didn’t have 22-23 up in the fall. They have listed “test scores” in the third most important column of “considered” which seems disingenuous when you look at data on the NC insight database. There is a very clear advantage to submitting scores so it’s odd they wouldn’t indicate this on cds. Application season is over but I do find this interesting. Thanks for sharing that the CDS was finally released.

The reply I received when it still wasn’t available after EA apps were due was really dismissive honestly. The wording was basically – we have no target date for this ‘work.’ My guess was they were withholding the cds on the heels of the court ruling, but the 2022-2023 data was already water under the bridge by the point the ruling happened. One of my theories was they were debating that chart of what’s “considered” (eg legacy implications). The cds is supposed to be a helpful tool. I was frustrated not to have access to it until now.

It’s interesting how they drug their feet on posting the CDS, however I was able to pull it months ago via a Google search or other link if I recall. They had a version elsewhere on their website but not posted under the CDS section.

Is UNC’s deadline to enroll still May 1? Waitlisted, and worried that the FAFSA delay is going to push any waitlist decisions late into summer.

Mine is waitlisted too. I think what they will need to do is enroll in another school, and then if magically they move off the waitlist they can enroll at UNC and loose the deposit at the other school. Maybe not? I mean I don’t really know anything.

UNCs waitlist was already late in the summer. Deadline still 5/1 from what I see, but I would not count on them taking from the list, or taking very very few. Last year oos was over enrolled so I don’t think they’ll draw from that group much at all

We know not to be very hopeful, but they did mention several rounds of decisions. I have read posts from previous years where the first round started a few days after the enrollment deadline which is why I hope they don’t move that back too far.

Hi, curious if your daughter got accepted to UNC, my daughter’s academic/athletic profile is very similar. Thanks
