UNC Chapel Hill Early Action for Fall 2025 Admissions

Yes, I was meaning athlete acceptances are a far larger percentage of a smaller school’s ED or EA than a big state school. So those saying athletes take up a large % of UNC’s EA oos students, that is not the case. And this year, with NCAA lawsuit, there may be less. My daughter’s friend had a verbal agreement to play at UNC and then had it withdrawn due to having limited roster spots because of it.

I agree. I gave u a thumbs up😊. It’s a significant chunk in Dukes ED and both groups result in the true accept rate as being much less( even tho the rate is silly low already)

UNC was my child’s reach. I knew my mom would have wanted us to try. She loved UNC so much. She passed away 13 years ago. When they would play basketball, you weren’t allowed to talk to her. If they missed a basket or lost——it was your fault. She wouldn’t even get up to use the bathroom. When she would get a new doc, she would ask them if they went to school at UNC and tease them if they didn’t. I know there’s no chance unless they liked my son’s essays and decided to give him a chance because he did overcome some health issues. He’s got the 35 ACT, but his GPA is only 4.17 and will be 4.2 something when the school calculates final grades. Those used to be good stats.

Grade inflation is bad bad bad. He’d have 4.3+ if not for some forgotten homework’s in 9-10th grade when he was sick and we didn’t know it. Literally those few homework’s was the difference between and A and a B. The 4 Bs he has total from 9th and 10th were literally 89s. Mere 10-100th away from an A. That’s the problem with the education system with grading. What’s the difference between an 89.44 and a 90 really? Nothing.

Thank you for listening to my “mom” memory. Sometimes you need to remember them then they are gone :relieved:

May I know if UNC defers a lot of students or they mainly accept or reject? I know some institutions defer a lot.

They don’t defer, only waitlist.

Nice story and your student has great stats. It’s such an emotional process and I appreciate these comments which are not simply stats. Which is really the important takeaway- these students have aspects that’ll allow for success anywhere and hopefully the end result is a community which is elevated due to their impactful work

Doesn’t sound like a reach. And I believe your Mom is watching over him and will be proud tomorrow, whatever the outcome. :dizzy:

What a beautiful story. I’m rooting for your kid! That test score is one that UNC is going to like, so I am hoping at 4 pm tomorrow to hear you report back that he got in!

You guys are so kind! His ec’s nothing like all the ones mentioned in here. Sounds intimidating. Best hope is the person that reviewed his application was empathic and impressed with how he dealt with his health issues and adhd. It wasn’t the common go to like just meds. I have to say, my kid has some ingenuity. He’s a totally different kid. His health stuff we deal with daily.

Does anyone on here have a kid who is a Robertson semifinalist? My kids is, and that is giving her hope for UNC tomorrow — tho it still seems like really, really a longshot as we’re out of state and I am trying to manage expectations. And she was outright rejected from Duke in the ED round, despite already being a Robertson semifinalist, so it’s all a bit head spinning.

I am a robertson semi-finalist as well! But i’m in state so idk how different it would be. Either way, praying for us both to get in!!

My son is also an OOS Robertson semifinalist. He applied RD to Duke & EA to UNC so acceptance to either school is unknown to us. Do you know when the Robertson decision will come out? Best of luck!

Your mom sounds just like mine! She was the same way with basketball games - and she instilled that love of Tarheel basketball in me. She died two weeks before my daughter was born, and man would she be excited if we had another generation of Heels. No matter what happens though - the love of UNC will always be there, and our kids will end up exactly where they should be.

I assume the ONYEN hack is not working for anyone?

What is the hack?

The only difference I see on our application page is where it used to say yes or no for the various opportunities that we selected, there are no answers beside those spots anymore. For example, honors Carolina and the direct admit programs used to indicate
yes or no or what she selected she was interested in. Now there’s no answer. So they’ve cleared something out.

My daughter’s answers are still there. She’s OOS and is a long-shot to get in, so maybe good news for you.

same here, OOS long shot, still see answers. Good luck all!

Hi everyone
