Hi, guys. I’ve been reading this for a while. I’m applying for transfer and incredibly nervous because my college GPA is awful. My high school college counselor told me I wouldn’t get in but I’m still applying. I am a freshman at Emory University in Atlanta. I loved Emory when I toured it – absolutely beautiful campus, but I’ve come to realize that I don’t love the people here. That being said it is hard for me to ask my parents to pay $70k (and more) a year for me just “kind of liking it”

I haven’t posted my stats, but I don’t know how much they’re weighed in the decision process. I’m 29 years old, so I’m a bit away from high school. I genuinely do not remember what my HS GPA was, but I am pretty sure it was around a 3.5. The first school I went to, the University of Arkansas, I had a terrible GPA because I was suffering from depression and anxiety almost my entire second semester. To the point that I literally could not leave my dorm room. This is what caused me to leave school. I suffered with my mental health on and off almost the last ten years until I moved here to NC. The change of environment coupled with better healthcare really helped me. Anyway, my more recent stats are like this:
Current School: NC Community College
Major: Media and Journalism
From: Arkansas, but I am NC resident
Current College GPA: 4.0
College Credits: 58
Extracurriculars: Phi Theta Kappa Vice-President of Fellowship and Supplemental Study Leader for Statistics.
With the way they decide, idk if knowing stats will make a difference.
@Mcunn226 Those stats are for incoming freshman and not transfer freshman though. Those are two different things. I know I have a smaller chance of getting in because of that but as a transfer freshman I think it is larger than only 82 though.
@cfisher19 from what i’ve seen on their transfer statistics, unc tends to accept more juniors as opposed to sophomore transfers. so i’d say that having your associates will certainly be an advantage!
You guys all have great stats and extra curriculars. I hope that we all get in and will be able to meet each other next semester as Chapel Hill students!! <3
So we’re looking at getting the email from the admissions office a week from today, right? The one insinuating that decisions will be released the next day?
I couldn’t be more anxious haha. I can barely fall asleep at night since I’m thinking about admissions too much. I got accepted into one of my safeties, but all I really want to do is attend UNC. I hope we can all get in!
@MaplePecanFrap same! I’m going to the Admitted Students day for my safety on Saturday. I’m hoping that I can churn up some excitement for that school, so I’m not completely devastated if Chapel Hill rejects me. ?
Do you guys think they care about the specific courses you took in high school if you already have your associates degree? I have 64 credits but my high school experience was different because I was homeschooled and then I earned a high school equivalency.
