UNC Transfer fall 2019

even if i don’t get in, i’ll still be excited for everyone else that gets in! i’ve got a safety school that I wouldn’t mind going to, but of course Chapel Hill is my top choice and my dream school

I’m sure UNC has mandatory info sessions and other events for transfer students. If we all end up getting admitted and go, I’m sure we would meet up there.

If admitted, y’all will see each other at orientation, which is the only required event to attend. Last year, they had 3 transfer orientations (on Saturday’s) to fit student schedules (June 1, July 14 and early August).

Just (possibly) a week away!

And in probably inconsequential yet I’m going to overanalyze for the next week news:

The director of the post-grad program I hope to ultimately get into (TransAtlantic Masters) checked out my LinkedIn profile yesterday.

I’m transferring this year with the interesting perspective of having worked in unc admissions (for one of the professional schools) two years ago. It’s making me, if anything, even more impatient. While it would be grossly unprofessional to spell out exactly what UNC looks for I will say that the people commenting that the admissions process is holistic are absolutely right. What I havent seen so many folks discusding is that demonstrating personal growth and passion for a subject area is valuable, as is showing that you’re connected to your community through volunteering and stuff. They really like to see community service, which I feel like is no great secret, since it’s on the website.

Best of luck to everyone!

@Bongle totally understand if you don’t want to answer because I don’t want to exploit you for your background in admissions, but I don’t really have time to volunteer because I need to work while in CC, and there also aren’t many opportunities in my town. You don’t think they would hold that against students that need to work, would they?

@penntousc They will definitely not hold it against you. They understand that a lot of students, especially transfers, have busy lives. In fact, your extra life experience can also count in your favor. Volunteering is definitely nice to have if you can fit it in, buts it’s not the end of the world if you don’t have it by any means.

I realise I’m being pretty vague here, but it’s a pretty vague process. I’d advise you not to worry too much.

You should know by now that “worrying” and “admissions” are synonymous.

Haha yeah, I just don’t want to make anyone worry more than they already were.

Too late to do anything about it anyway. We’re about 172 hours out.

But again, who’s counting?

also, anyone know how they are with accepting online courses? If I get in I really should do the prerequisite programming course before the fall, but they only offer it for summer session 1 and my CC only offers it online this summer

@Bongle if you don’t mind me asking do you know how they would look at legacy??

Online is fine so long as it meets all the other requirements for transfer credits. If you’re really worried, phone them and ask.

Legacy is not a major factor.

@Bongle which professional school did you work for?

They will definitely take online coursework. A lot of the classes for my Associate degree were taken online and everything transferred pretty smoothly last year.

Does being a firstresponder/rotc cadet help? @Bongle

I don’t really want to address really specific questions. All of the stuff I’ve mentioned so far is stuff that you could glean by a very attentive reading of all of the publicly available admissions materials the college puts out.

I really just posted to sympathize with you all, I’m not trying to make myself a public resource on internal admissions procedures, and I probably should have seen this coming and not said anything. I’ll be taking off now, once again best of luck to you all.

Me? Not worry? Hahahahaha. I’ve been worrying since before I hit submit.

Run away!

@Bogle It’s hard to believe that you didn’t see that coming, but bye.
