UNC Transfer fall 2019

I think all transfers can begin registering on the same day for their first semester at UNC regardless of credits earned (someone correct me if I’m wrong on that) . And then each “block” of 15 credits you have counts as a “term in residence”. Registration was really frustrating for me last year but it was much smoother this past spring and upcoming fall. @yeeeeeeeeeet

But yes, transfers do register dead last behind all returning students. The only students that register later are incoming first years. However, many classes that they take have reserved seats so it’s usually not a problem for them to be last to register.

Once you register for spring 2020 and beyond, you will register at the same date as the returning students who have the same “terms in residence” as you do so you will not be at a registration disadvantage.

@HSstudentNC Is it hard to get on-campus housing as a transfer at Chapel Hill?

Not hard to get it, however you may not get your first preference residence hall. They have you list 10 halls when you apply and will try to place you in your top preference based on availability at that time. @Leilala

I applied for housing in mid April and got assigned my room in mid May. If you choose to live on campus the following year, you get to choose your room yourself instead of it being assigned to you. I am choosing to live off campus for 2019-2020.

Yes I did! They came out Monday at 4

@HSstudentNC That’s great - thanks! I really wanted to live on-campus but when my dad went to Chapel Hill like 30 years ago most upperclassmen didn’t even have the option. I’m glad that’s changed!

I did some calling around with admissions and housing, and they gave me some info.
Transfers can start enrolling in classes 24 hours after they accept their admission offer.
The housing portal starts working for transfers 3-5 business days after they put down their enrollment deposit.

does anyone know how to find out the classes you have to sign up for based on your major?

I called about the FAFSA issue and financial aid emails some of us seem to have been getting, @transferluk @Sofiseahawk @reidtw and they told me that some transfers got those emails by mistake, they were automatically generated by the system because they aren’t done moving all of our FAFSA data into their databases.

You should be able to see your degree requirements if you google your major with UNC at the end. @“lee.sophia32@gmail.com

@yeeeeeeeeeet Re: Enrollment

That would’ve been last night at 7:30 for me, but it’s saying I still “do not have access to enrollment at this time.” Additionally, can we go for classes before our credit transfer report is in? Seems like they would need that first.

If you plan to take a class that has a pre-req, you’ll need to wait for your credit report to come in. If it’s a class like LFIT or an introductory language course, you can register for it regardless of whether your credit report is in or not.

Do we have to accept our offer of admission before finding out what financial aid we are offered? If so, is the offer of admission like an official commitment, because I really can’t commit before I know if I’ll be offered financial aid. I’ll sadly have to go with another school if I’m looking at the normal OOS 50k per year.

Hey- I was recently accepted into the EXSS program and would love your advice on how to approach my first-semester concerning classes. Any classes you would recommend/stay away from? I’ve been looking through the course catalog feel a bit overwhelmed. All recomendations will be helpful.I look forward to hearing back from you.

^ question was in response to HSstudentNC- Im obviously new to this. How do we respond directly to someone?

I messaged you @knighter

When will I know how my credits will transfer?
We’re now evaluating the transfer credit of admitted students, and within the next few weeks (and no later than May 1), students will receive an email with their evaluation of credit. To ensure that you receive the email, please create your official UNC username, or as we call it, your ONYEN (“The Only Name You’ll Ever Need”) and your UNC email account and add “unchelp@admissions.unc.edu” to your safe-sender email list. In the meantime, check out our Transfer Credit section to learn more about how we evaluate transfer credit. You’ll also have the opportunity to learn more about transfer credit at an admitted student info session. We’ll be sending you an email shortly with an invitation to these sessions on April 29, May 3, and May 6.

I just created my onyen but not yet email. I haven’t decided to enroll yet and like to view my transfer credit report before. I’m confused if I need to create an email to view my report. I have 83 credits completed at this moment most of which are engineering classes. Knowing UNC doesn’t take many engineering credits, I am nervous I could potentially end up an incoming sophomore. This is very confusing that they allow me to send me PID to create onyen before enrollment.

Help please!

So is everyone able to view the program they were accepted into and was this listed within your acceptance letter? I applied to the school of journalism and media (second option was public policy), but all it says on my letter is that I was admitted into the “college of arts and sciences”. Isn’t that just general ed? I am able to log in to my ConnectCarolina account, but don’t see anything about my program. I thought they would have indicated to me that I didn’t get into the program I selected or at least tell me that I got into my second choice. Don’t program selections typically come out along with acceptance letters?

I’ve been on hold with admissions forever - so they must be pretty backed up.
