UNC Transfer fall 2019

Well, I probably should have known that before I took 18 credit hours this semester :frowning:

@M4kosofsilence wait my bad i read your question wrong (thought you meant packet in the mail). but yeah i got my FA award like 2 days after i think?

Dang, I submitted my FAFSA and CSS well before the deadline too  I guess it’s because they requested extra documentation from me. I just wanna know if I can afford it so I can commit already lol.

@M4kosofsilence Maybe you should call and ask. They needed a couple of things from me too, when after I spoke to a counselor I got mine like the next day.

If I’m waiting to hear back from one more school that’s not supposed to come out until May 15th, if I accepted admission at UNC and registered for classes but then (off-chance) got into the other school on May 15th, would there be an issue if I decided to accept there instead, if anyone knows?

You would need to withdraw from UNC before you accept your offer of admission at the other school. @annon9

@HSstudentNC Okay, thank you! Do you know how I would go about that, if needed?

You would be able to do so within Connect Carolina. It would be one of the options under the “Academics” tab on the left side of the page. @annon9

Still wondering where the mail is…

I actually just checked my welcome package from last year and it was mailed out on April 25th… @kcasssuu

@HSstudentNC Thank you!

@HSstudentNC Is there any way to get permission to enroll in a class where you’re lacking the prerequisites at UNC? Asking because I’ll be taking Calc II (MATH 232 equivalent) over the summer and need to sign up for MATH 233 and 381 in the fall, and I really would like to do it now instead of when my transcripts get there at the end of August.

Also (sorry if you’ve already been asked this), but what on-campus housing choices do you recommend? Is the walk from South Campus to classes

You would need to contact the math department or registrar on that issue most likely. I was unable to register for MATH 231 last year because I didn’t yet have credit for its pre req (MATH 130) at the time and had to wait until I completed the class before I could register for 231.

As for on-campus housing, the suites of mid and south campus tend to be newer and more spacious than the traditional corridor dorm style halls on north campus. Personally, I think Carmichael (mid campus) is a good choice as it is closest to the Student Recreation center and is the closest suite hall to main campus. In addition, the Transfers United RLP is in Carmichael, making it easy to meet new transfers. South campus dorms are about a half a mile walk to classes. Personally I bike to classes, so it takes me roughly 5-7 minutes to bike whereas it’s normally a 10-15 minute walk depending on where you are in South Campus. I would say North campus has the benefit of location but not much else. The rooms tend to be smaller but there are a few pretty nice ones such as Cobb. @Leilala

Does anyone know whether or not UNC would rescind my admission? When I applied, my GPA was a 3.6 but at the end of this semester, it will be a 3.5 (a few B+'s mixed in there with A-'s, no C’s). I am so nervous that I will be rescinded because they don’t ask for final transcripts to be sent until June 8th, and I am worried I will get rescinded then.

I’m pretty certain they would not rescind your admission for a few B+’s or A-‘s. If your performance this semester was drastically worse (such as a fair amount of C’s or worse), they’d likely email you to see what was going on and get an explanation. You have nothing to be worried about. @Mozerella24

Thank you for your response! @HSstudentNC I’ll try to ease my anxiousness haha

@HSstudentNC Did you or anyone you know take the junior transfer seminar last year? I’m interested in taking it, but not sure if I should. Kind of looking for a possible easy A.

I myself did not take it but I know a few people who did. They said it was a good class overall. You do earn an EE gen ed requirement which is one of the harder gen-ed’s to fulfill. You will focus your study on a few readings and observations/interviews where you do very small scale qualitative research (for an autoethnography) on a certain professor approved topic that you choose yourself. At the end of the semester, you turn in the paper and that’s a big portion of the grade. @coletteaaa

Does anyone know if UNC would accept credits that a previous institution awarded you for AP scores/standardized tests? My current university recently changed their criteria for granting credit based on test scores so I now have credit for a history and English course. The grade posted for these classes are listed on my school’s student portal as “CR” and appear on my unofficial transcript with the number of credit hours listed. Based on UNC’s transfer credit equivalency table, it appears that equivalent courses exist and, theoretically, should transfer just fine. Since I received these credits from test scores, though, would it still be possible for them to transfer even if UNC’s criteria for test credit differs?

UNC will only grant AP test credit if it fulfills their AP credit requirements. For example, if you earned a 3 on AP Psychology and your previous institution gave you credit for it, UNC will not because they require a 4 or better (or at least they did as of last year).

Now if you mean you took a placement test at your previous institution and got testing credit for a class and UNC has a direct equivalent, then yes, you should earn credit for the class. For some classes it should be noted that you may only receive a placement credit (no credit hours awarded). One such example I had was the NC community college class MAT 172 (Trigonometry). I was awarded credit for UNC’s MATH 130P. The P denoting placement credit that doesn’t grant credit hours. This is not for every class though, so check your credit report once it’s available to make sure. @aquariusmoon
