UNC Transfer fall 2019

No reason has been given. Maybe they wanted to try and allow people who had some outstanding last-minute items to still get in the door.

Okay, UNC received all my documents yesterday so I am super excited! It is one of my top choices. Good luck to all.

California community college student
Junior transfer
GPA: 3.83
Major: Media & Journalism
Extracurriculars: YouTube and freelance writing/editing
Job/Work Experience: part-time teacher
Volunteer/Community service: 5 years for hospice care, 2 years for food banks, 3 years tutoring, 1 year teacher’s assist

UNC fell off as my top choice for a bit, but then I found out what the Carolina Covenant is. Needless to say, I’ll be on this thread maniacally anticipating an admissions decision with the rest of you. Good luck to everyone!

@penntousc we are one and the same

@reidtw I noticed that you currently attend Cuse. How has that been so far? I’m applying there as well, but I ended up landing on CS as my major and I can’t imagine Cuse having strong stem programs, although I don’t know much about the university. I’d do pretty much anything to get into UNC, but my only real requirements are an accessible CS major and good aid

@penntousc 'Cuse is a great school. Being from New York, I always have loved it and currently do love it with everything in me. The CS program itself is through the engineering school, and is ranked #68 nationally by U.S. News. Granted, the site isn’t the most trustworthy. You can find more info about the program at http://eng-cs.syr.edu/ .

For the most part, I have enjoyed myself and my experience here at Syracuse. With that said, I have encountered my fair share of difficulties regarding academics, the social scene, and the weather (!). In terms of financial aid, the school is very generous when it comes to giving money IF you qualify. It’s a private school, so it has more money to give; but I know nothing of your personal financial situation. I would say though, if you qualify for the Carolina Covenant, then Syracuse will also do its best to make sure your education is affordable.

Still, everyone comes from and will encounter different situations; but if you want more information about MY personal experience, please find a way for us to talk more privately, so we don’t take over this message board.

@reidtw Oh I totally understand what you mean. I’ll send you a PM!

Today’s the day (again).

I wonder if they will do a first come first serve kind of thing when it comes to looking over applications. I submitted my application before Thanksgiving and would love to be one of the first ones to know if I got accepted or not.

We all find out at about the same time.

Yeah, it looks like nearly everyone heard back on April 6th last year, and I think I remember reading that some of them had applied at the very last minute. April 6th is pretty good though, so no complaints there.

Posting again just to see if anyone has any additional input:

Hi! I am a current Sophomore applying to transfer as a Junior for Fall 2019

Here are my stats:

High school:
Junior Marshal, 4.7 GPA

Freshman Year:
First Semester (Wake Tech)
I was accepted to NC State as a Spring Admit, so in order to stay ahead I went to a local community college for a semester (I am most worried about this, as I do not know how they will treat a semester’s worth of CC credits and I was rejected after applying to transfer as a Sophomore).
GPA: 3.75 (14 hrs)
Second Semester (NC State)
GPA 3.7 (16 hrs)
Major: English and Comparative Literature

Sophomore Year:
GPA: 3.8 (25-28 hrs)
I took a course at Chapel Hill (and got an A) and will be transferring with 70-74 credits in hopes of making a smooth transition.

EC: College radio, student film society, University Ambassador, employment at both College library and local art collective

Plus, I have two recommendation letters from NC State professors in my areas of interest.

Chances? Suggestions? I am mostly worried about “proving myself,” as the main reason I was rejected for Sophomore transfer was because I did not have enough to show, being that I had done one semester at community college and one here at State. I’m thinking that I’m in the clear given that I took an in-person class there, but I would appreciate any additional input!

Don’t count on it being April 6th this year, the past few years the decision dates have varied by a few days or so. I do know that for the past few years, UNC sends an email the day before decisions are released titled “Imporant Update from Carolina” where they say thanks for applying, and although they don’t know when they are going to release decisions, it won’t be today (the day of the email). In addition they post the same thing but in the admissions blog site. Once you see this email, you can be pretty sure decisions will come out next day.

@HSstudentNC so they’re basically going to ■■■■■ us on purpose is what you’re saying? I’m fine with that as long as I hear back some time within the next two months

T r o l l is apparently derogatory on here

Essentially, yes. I remember seeing the email last year, freaked out and then read that decisions wouldn’t be released that day. But the next afternoon decisions were released. And that’s how it’s been for the past few years, so I’m going to assume it happens again this year.

That seems to be the current routine for all admission cycles (EA, RD, Transfer).

  1. Email on how decisions won’t be “today”
  2. Day or so later the email/blog update on decisions
  3. Decisions that afternoon around 4pm.

Hi everyone! I’m a potential OOS transfer from a liberal arts school in New England. Lower gpa due to significant illness but have bounced back since then, so who knows! Nice to meet you all.

@cfisher19 I called a few months ago and asked about this, and the admissions employee I spoke to said that the timeliness of your submission has no impact on the timetable/result of your decision.

Since we have over about 51 days to go…trying to keep the discussion going.

Does anyone know if UNC recalculates GPAs onto their scale? My school considers everything above a 90 an A, and every A gets a 4.0. In other words, we don’t do A- or A+. Let’s say going by this system I have a 3.91 (because I do), would UNC redo that for their system?
