undeclared to Mechanical Engineering

Is it possible to start undeclared for the 1st semester and then go to some kind of engineering major for the 2nd semester?

well I’m sure you can take classes your first semester which relates to engineering (and your specific- mechanical) and if you do well, you can apply into the major and program and see if you get in

Wass- Call the engineering dept and speak to an advisor.

The was classes work for Fall semester freshman year, at least last year… The school provides you with a class schedule. All but one class was in Math or Eng/Science. You are placed in a group of 14 or so others that will be in all your recitation classes so you can study together if need be and get to now a small group.

If you are “undecided” major, unsure how they will make a schedule for you or if you get to pick classes. By the way, my son didn’t like the “arts” class they put him in so he was able to drop/add over the summer before fall term started.

Also, a heads up… My son is pretty good at looking ahead to waht he has to take every semester. Felt there was no room for World Civ (2- he took 1 in the spring and some other history class and both English classes so he took them on line over the summer from Eric CC and SUNY Farmingdale. Just though other engineering majors may want to have this option or even take some over the summer before Freshman year to get them out of the way.
