Meant social/alumni being elite. Feeling the love.
It does sell itself as being 30 minutes away from a major city, but the kids mostly don’t ever go there.
Congrats to him. Hope letting his coach know goes well although that’s the least of concerns.
Hope this time it fits him !!
Typical Frequency a Babson Student Goes to Boston
Babson College is in Wellesley, about 35–45 minutes from Boston, and students often head into the city for nightlife, restaurants, concerts, internships, and social events.
Estimated Average
-
1–2 times per week for a socially active student
-
2–4 times per month for a more typical or moderate student
-
Rarely (0–1 times per month) for those who prefer on-campus or local activities
What Influences Frequency?
1. Whether the student has a car
-
With a car: trips 2–3× per week are common
-
Without a car: depends on using ride-shares or the Wellesley commuter rail; often closer to 1–3× per month
2. Social habits
-
Students who go out in Boston for nightlife tend to visit Fridays and/or Saturdays regularly
-
More academically focused or introverted students go less frequently
3. Internship or job in Boston
- Students with jobs/internships in Boston might commute 3–5 days per week, but this is usually separate from social visits.
4. Cost considerations
- Uber/Lyft from Babson to Boston can be $30–60 each way, which reduces frequency unless split among friends.
Bottom-line Estimate
A typical Babson student of legal drinking age likely goes to Boston about 2–4 times per month, with more socially active students going weekly.
Thanks for coming back to let us know what your son decided. Wishing your son a wonderful experience at Boston College!
Meant my kid’s school
Will love it there and use Boston as much as he wants to. It is basically a campus in the city.
I certainly hope so - especially for kids on their second ride. Let’s hope it’s a win for him from a positive experience point of view!!
Choice is hard - and he outkicked the coverage acceptance wise with four top schools!!!
It’s great he feels the love at BC and with hard work, I’m sure it will pay dividends. That he’s stoked for the school is a great feeling and truly what matters.
Yeah, he’s all-in now.
Hope he has an amazing experience.
From my perspective, that’s the right call especially given how much he likes it.
I myself would chose BC among these schools if I were headed into finance but didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do. If Wall Street is any possibility as a desired destination, that’s a pretty good feeder.
And joining a well established club (which most frats are) can be a good way for a transfer student to establish a new group of friends. There are other ways too, of course, like playing in the band or joining a business frat or an intramural sport. At many schools juniors do not live in dorms so they have to figure out other ways to make friends.
Having a small group of hs friends at the new school also can be a way, and it also is nice to see a friendly face every once in a while.
