Univ of Washington Class of 2020 Application Thread

The acceptance rate is pretty high already, lots of great schools only have 30-40%, which are much harder than UW to get in, but not necessarily better.

@Guo12138
A lot of people on this thread have been accepted to schools with lower acceptance rates but got rejected by UW.
They had good stats too. Idk how UW admissions works but it seems non compliant with other schools.

@2828collegebound I haven’t heard back from UW either. This is torture because I cannot think of anything else besides my application decision. I really don’t like school that sends out letters for multiple days. Every day you just expect to see something in the mailbox and then there is nothing. Yesterday I literally sat in front of my mailbox reading book while waiting for the mailman to come. And then there is nothing again. For those who haven’t heard back from UW, maybe the best is yet to come. Good luck to everybody!

I just wish I get rejected already so I can fully commit to a college that already wants me!

@smartypants57 @sourfeature
Well, because they accept 55% total, and waitlist some of the rest… So obviously there will be more acceptances than rejections…

If there are a total of 100 who apply and they accept 55% (55 students) then waitlist 10% (10 students), there would be 35 students rejected…
55 > 35

And if you’re instate, the acceptance rate is around 68%.

The problem is, we have no idea the percentage of accepted/rejected who have already been notified. 100%? 90% 50%? This is just an insane way of notifying. If your system can’t notify everyone at once, then change the system. If you are waiting for some to decline before notifying more THEN SAY THAT SO WE KNOW WHAT’S GOING ON!! I just may call tomorrow to see if I can get some admission counselor to take pity on me and share some info about whether everyone who hasn’t been notified is waitlist or if it really is in waves of acceptances, rejections AND waitlist. Maybe if we ALL call we can get tidbits of info and piece this together?

I got accepted via portal on the 17th but haven’t gotten my official letter? from bay area ca has anyone here gotten the letter yet?

also, can someone repost the thread for admitted students and/or make it public, I can’t find it :confused: thanks!!

Guys, check your mailbox everyday just in case the letter comes before the updates on portal. I looked up on former threads and information. It seems like lots of students never got their myUW thing works but still got accepted. So don’t crack up now. When a lot of my instate friends got accepted on 15th, I thought I got rej and lost my hope initially. I was told that the system of uw only works to send out small waves at one time so don’t worry. I love how UCSC inform students by last name early I. The morning and everyone got their notify on one day when they wake up. After all, relax and have faith in yourself! Especially if you already got admitted to another college or have a medium well stats and good EC.

@californiagrl16 I got accepted on the 16th and am from SoCal and have so far not received the letter

Do you think the next results will come out tonight?

I think the waitlist batch will come out tonight

I called admissions during morning passing time. :slight_smile:

One option on the automated system was ‘if you are calling about waitlist status press 1’. So either some waitlists have gone out or they are coming soon. No one here has posted that they are waitlisted, but there aren’t all that many of us posting on here.

She said the notification is random on purpose so not all the ‘same type of call’ is being fielded by them following notifications. She said they can’t have everyone getting rejections being notified at once as the departments dealing with rejections would get overwhelmed as is the same with acceptances as housing and other departments get flooded. She said letters are mailed in waves for this reason.

She first said the portal gets updated once the letter has been mailed, but then said, 'You may get your letter before the portal update', but couldn't really tell me why that would happen other than 'It's just a lot of people we are notifying and portals that are updated. She said there are still acceptances, rejections AND waitlist notifications to be made through the 31st. You are no more likely to be admitted, rejected or waitlisted in the coming days. It is completely random. If anyone else calls and learns something different, we'd all love to hear. I only got a receptionist.

@mulan2020 and @KJ2016 , here is some additional information to consider:

In 2014, there were 31,611 applicants and 17,451 acceptances (55.2%), and in 2015, there were 36,840 applicants and 19,646 acceptances (53.3%), which resulted over-enrollment when more students than expected decided to enroll. This year, the number of applicants increased to 43,334. If UW accepts around 19,000 to 20,000 this year, the acceptance rate would be somewhere around 43% to 46%.

OOS applications have increased the most, from 13,520 in 2014, to 16,638 in 2015, to 20,904 in 2016.

International applications have also increased from 7,632 in 2014, to 8,927 in 2015, to 10,750 in 2016.
Instate applications have remained relatively steady, increasing from 10,459 in 2014, to 11,275 in 2015, to 11,680 in 2016.

If the UW accepts around 19,000 to 20,000 this year and the acceptance rate for instate remains around the same (65%), the acceptance rate could drop to around 40-43% for OOS and 30-33% for internationals.

P.S. In 2014, UW waitlisted around 6.7% of applicants (data for 2015 has not been published).

This is a good read:

Just got waitlisted so seems like some of you were right.

@ordboka Was it on your portal?

@mulan2020 Have you got your decision yet?

I got an email. My portal is still the same, and the message still says until a final decision has been made.
