Univ of Washington Class of 2020 Application Thread

I felt like UW knew that I was not going to come. I am sort of done considering already admitted to my dream school

Waitlisted…guess I’m headed to UCSC

yikes I have a 3.6 GPA and checked portal. It says congratulations so im assuming i got in

@2828collegebound I’m done with UW.

I’m so sorry you guys. IDK what’s up with UW this year? So what now? moving on or not. I think I’ll be attending UCI not completely sure yet.

Waitlisted.
3.94 UW GPA
Top 10% of my class
1730 SAT
4 AP and 2 honors.
EC: Employment at McDonald’s, Key Club, Interact Club, Choir, Ultimate Frisbee, long term volunteering at local thrift store
I thought my essays had been pretty good.

I just got waitlist from UW. I am not going to wait for it even though UW has long been my top school. I have realtively good stats and had spend hours just on my application, so I don’t see the reason why I was waitlisted. I knew a lot of kids in my school got in with very low stats, one particular only has 1340 on the SAT. So maybe we shouldn’t feel bad about it because I can’t imagine being around with students like those. So, good luck UW!

Still gonna put myself on the list

@WaitingForUW honestly how did you not get in with that GPA… UW makes no sense this year.

They said they are doing a holistic process of reviewing application, and Essay is a particularly important part of their reviewing process. But now, I really don’t think so. Because two of my essay was published on the newspaper for sample personal statement and now I was waitlisted. Maybe we shouldn’t take what UW admission officers told you so seriously.

@Corunum I’m confused too… I know people who had 3.4 GPAs and like 1600 SAT scores that got in, yet people like me with 3.8 or 3.9 GPA’s on here that got waitlisted. Doesn’t make any sense to me at all. I get that they look at other things like extra curricular but really? This seems a bit extreme.

@hw1234 I dunno, I’ve been working towards UW for all of high school! My other options now are Portland State, UW Tacoma, or Western Washington

the decision this year is so weird, is it because UW hired 6 extra faculties to view the application this year? UW rejected plenty over-qualified students.

I agree with @hw1234 . @WaitingforUW appears to have an average SAT, but the overall application and interest would definitively help. I would definitively send a letter to the admission department demonstrating any recent accomplishments and activities. If you can get any stellar recommendation letter(s) from teachers and/or community leaders – I would also definitively include that as well.

@PentaDad According to the wait list email, “If spaces in the freshman class become available, waitlist decisions will be based on the information you provided in your application and the information you provide on the online form. Additional materials, such as transcripts and letters of recommendation, will not be considered”. It seems that they will not even look at sent in updated information and that they will admit from the wait list only from the original applications and the online form.

@WaitingForUW Same here, I am planning now on WWU. It’s a great school, plus it will save a lot of money.

@hw1234 True! I think I’m going to commit to WWU, especially cause I have a $3,000 scholarship for freshman year. If UW decides later to let me in, I’ll have to rethink it all again, but for now I gotta commit. Are you gonna go to Western Preview?

I was accepted a couple days ago, here are my stats:

UW: 3.6, W: 3.79
SAT: 2160 (680,680, 800)
no SAT IIs or AP tests
ECs: Spent summer in Oaxaca starting community based programs that the members of community really wanted, (spoke fluent spanish while down there), club founder+president (baking that donates proceeds to charity), three years varsity track (I do pole-vault), tennis team captain (only JV), head of my local parade, and have been doing productions for 3 years at my school, which included set building
Essays: Pretty strong, I spoke about living in four completely different places (poor to rich, California to oversees)
I transferred from an international school in England halfway through Freshman year and kind of screwed up my grades fresh+sophomore year, but then got a perfect UW 4.0 junior year. I’ve taken 4 APs and 2 Honors, honestly sort of surprised I got in. They must be looking pretty holistically because I got a C in physics my sophomore year. it’s been difficult for the UCs to overlook that.

In-State: Waitlisted
GPA: 3.68
SAT: 1790 (Took in October 2012 as a Freshman including 770 on Math)
ACT: 32 (Took in September 2015 and 36 on Math)
SAT Subject Tests: 800 on Math II (Took in October 2015) and 800 on Chinese (Took in November 2015)
8 AP Classes (including 5 on AP Calculus BC as a Freshman)
Extracurricular Activities: Numerous Piano Awards, Honors Society, Employment as a tutor at local community college…
My essays were decent and I spent quality time on my application. I do not know what UW is doing this year…

AYYYY… Hit me up WWU ppl. maybe I should go to WWU that way I don’t have live in dorms and its muchhhhh cheaper
