Hey! I’m currently a grade 11 student in Toronto. I was born here, so I don’t have to worry about being an international student of anything. My grades are pretty good so far- I have above a 90% in 3 or my subjects from last semester, but I have one 55% (in Physics, but I don’t plan to ever continue on or take another science course again, so I figure it won’t matter much).
I’m really into both Business and English. I know that’s so vague, ha ha. I’ve always had a passion for English- I’ve always had the highest mark in my class in English every year, and I absolutely love reading and writing. I’m really passionate about it. I also like Business. I have a 90% in Accounting (I honestly didn’t even try at all), but I’m more into marketing/management, which is what I’m taking this semester (which just started today).
I’m going to be applying to universities in the fall/next winter. I was just wondering if there was any way for me to go into both? English (esp. writing and Literature) is my passion, but I like Business and feel it will be more practical when looking for jobs. I’m so confused about choosing what to study. Do I have to major in one and minor in the other? Is there a way to study both equally? I feel like going into Business will ensure me a job, which at the end of the day matters most (I know that sounds bad, but I don’t come from a rich family, so I can’t go to school solely to ‘enrich myself’ and learn for fun), but I don’t want to let go of English.
Are there any universities in Toronto/GTA that allow you to do both, or to major/minor in one another? I’ve tried to do research, but it’s so confusing. My teachers are no help at this at all. Also, which universities have the best business or English programs in Toronto? If I can’t do both, I’ll choose one. In addition, do you know what kind of grades I’ll need to get into University? I know in Canada, Grade 12 matters most, and I’m planning on taking English courses, Math courses and Business courses. I had U of T in mind at first, but I’m honestly not tied to going to one university- I hope to apply to a few.
Sorry if this was confusing! This is my first time on this website, and I don’t even know where to post my question, ha ha. I know I asked a lot of questions.
