University of Alabama Fall '24 Admissions

I’m not promoting - and again, May 1 is d-day.

There are many threads on here - and others agree.

I didn’t know Common says so.

There’s a difference after May 1 and before May 1.

I’m not suggesting people enroll multiple places. In this case, the student thought they were going to Bama - so in this case, I’m suggesting they leave it.

But I’m not promoting adding more for sake out adding.

Also - I would study the rules of the new school…is housing impacted? If not, I would wait to accept.

The reason is - and we saw it last year - some schools (private) come through with more money at the end in an effort to “twist” arms.

I’ll stand by my response.

Thanks

And I’ll stand by response. Unethical.

Thanks

I understand your point - but nothing is “committed” short of ED until May 1.

We can agree to disagree - and again, I’m not advocating openly doing this and if OP knows 100% her kid isn’t going - fine - but this is past (not willy nilly paying for various enrollments) and OP has paid and this happens and you will see others agreeing.

It’s unethical of schools to require early deposits under the guise of getting better housing.

The entire system is not ethical.

Your point is your point - and it’s fine - it works for you and I appreciate your perspective.

and I’ll go back to - the new school - if there’s no penalty (i.e housing issue) with waiting, I’d wait - especially if a private - in the slim but not impossible hope that as D Day gets closer, more $$ come - we saw that from a multitude of schools last year - and they can swap at that time rather than now.

If OP decides to withdraw today as their original plan, that’s great too.

PS - I didn’t know that about Common App but if I signed to something, then I would follow that logic.

Let’s move on from the off-topic conversation about double depositing. If the numerous prior dedicated threads on the topic are insufficient, feel free to start a new one.

Record breaking in what way? Sounds positive.

Student population. There are many schools - that are seeking to get larger with many leading edge Presidents…such as Michael Crow at ASU and Dr. Bell.

With all the money they are giving out…makes sense. College is expensive and smart kids are getting in for little expense. It’s an affordable option for many who otherwise cannot afford…in addition to modern, pristine, and with a robust greek and sports system that many seek.

How they afford it - I don’t know.

When my son enrolled at Bama and put down the deposit… and other schools had not yet released decisions… his high school counselor had no problem with doing so. In his opinion, colleges and universities have all the leverage over kids and the process is very one-sided. As long as you can decline by May 1 I do not think there is a problem. Schools have a wait-list, so if someone declines in May a spot may open up.

We just made our reservations for the Capstone Scholars weekend. I’m hopeful it goes well and makes a good impression for my daughter. I don’t know if we can add anything else in to make it a more personal visit, but I may ask our recruiter.

I was specifically referring to the size of the freshmen class. I don’t think it will be much larger than this year’s freshmen class, but President Bell did say that he expected it to be larger. Also, UA is starting to get more selective in their admissions. This year is supposedly the transition year.

I can tell. Normally our private high school will have 7-8 acceptances. This year only 3.

Have kids been rejected from your school? Or kids
still have applications that are under review?

A lot have been rejected. Others have just been hanging in limbo since August.

Thank you! We are one of those waiting since August! Fingers crossed!

Best of luck to your child!

My daughter got that, too. Is yours planning on going to Bama?

I think her daughter is enrolling at Clemson.

She has already enrolled at Clemson. Clemson has been her dream school her whole life and its super close to home right over the border. We have loved everything about Bama especially the merit they offered but its about 6 hours from home and my daughter is a passenger princess and hates to drive. LOL! Congrats to your girl!

Exact same with us- only 3 out of 10

This is definitely the year that Alabama starts restricting the number of students they are admitting. I think they have executed their plan flawlessly. The campus is spectacular, the outreach has been fantastic, and the merit is so generous. Now they will just start restricting admissions, and becoming more competitive now that everything is in place. Perfectly executed plan.

Where are you seeing/ hearing this? I have heard of no rejections so curious. I know UA has been slow in decisions but so far we have not personally seen a change to their admissions otherwise, so wondering. Thanks
