University of California Transfer Students Fall 2007 OFFICIAL THREAD!!!

yeah, when we were visiting down there my friend parked on gayley and got towed lol.

id rather not deal with the hassle, although it would be convenient, i dont think ill be leaving much during my first year, as ill by trying to make the most out of the campus/westwood/frat events

if you live on campus do you get a parking space?

http://college.ucla.edu/up/tap/faq.htm

My parents want me to join a frat at UCLA and not drive. Frat and no car vs. Car in an apartment off campus…

Aren’t frats huge responsibilities? Do I get the total party experience and hella girls if I join a frat?

smith you dont want to live on campus at all?

you can get your full college experience however you want, frats are just one of them. even if you join a frat, you wont be able to move in until halfway through the school year, after you pledge.
Im joining one because one of my good friends is in it and i think it will help to make friends as a transfer.

Any TAP rejects?

I guess I COULD live on campus if it would get me more involved and closer to school. I want to be super involved in student government, etc.

My parents will be supporting me and they think it is more economical to buy a condo in LA rather than wasting money on rent for 3 years. I am used to having my own space (not sharing a room or a bathroom, and having a parking space) so a condo sounds nice.

If I live in a frat house, does that mean sharing a room and bathroom and no privacy ,no parking space, etc?

Wait…

A condo anywhere within about a 15 mile radius of UCLA runs $350K to over $500K. Including amortization of the mortgage, and you’re looking at upwards of $600K in today dollars and $1.7 million in present value.

How is that in any way economical?

What’s not easy? Getting an apartment?

UCLAri, buying a condo would be an investment, as opposed to renting, where your money goes nowhere but into the owner’s pocket.

At least when he leaves UCLA, he’ll have some money into a condo, and he can sell it and get his money back if he chooses to.

kevintech,

Yes, but not all investments are good ones. Especially not right now with the cost of housing.

He could also lose a ton of money when the housing bubble bursts.

Guys I’m freaking out bad! I’m still waiting for UCLA :frowning: I NEED YOUR HELP. If I get rejected, what should I do as far as appeal goes? I NEED to get in UCLA, I don’t give a butterfly’s wing about Berkeley…I HATE BERKELEY. I don’t care if they reject me but I DO care if UCLA rejects me. HELP!!

Peep2:

If I call will I be able to get in (If rejected)?

Whos is transferring to UCLA next fall? I don’t know anyone down there right now and I’m going to need to make a whole new set of friends. Anyone that’s going to UCLA next fall and wants to hang out should hit me up on myspace or facebook:

myspace.com/hgraehl
facebook: search heather graehl
webpage: graehl.com

Hopefully it won’t be hard to adjust as a transfer with making a new group of friends. I would imagine it would be more difficult than coming in as a freshman to the dorms.

unknown: ummm they’re not going to say “oh, okay now you’re in since you bothered to call.” but if you ask them to give you insight on why you were rejected, they might be able to answer that. the person who answered caught a mistake that they might’ve made so she told me she’d re-evaluate but it’s not a common situation. my app was kind of complicated.

Unknown726, I thought they already released all their transfer decisions online? I guess not? I completely sympathize with your stress… i was a nervous wreck. You just have to hold on tight and check the webpage 40x per day. Their appeal process is really strict though. They will only look at appeals if it brings new information that was not represented on original application. They use misreported grade or test score as an example. They also say restating your qualities is not basis for appeal. Their webpage states that historically their appeals have very low success rate. If you don’t get in I would try to appeal anyways, because it can’t hurt to try.

Sigh… I really don’t envy the stress you’re feeling…I sympathize. I’m so glad mine is over. Good luck.

Heather, I’m going to UCLA in the fall…

added you. :)

someone should make a CC facebook group for all of us on here

I wonder if Econ at Berkeley will be easier to get into since they accept by department instead of by major. Also, there won’t be any TAP people taking up spots.

Berkeley better blow me away w/ it’s campus…visited ucla not to long ago and it’s hard to top that atmosphere…

Also, bobbak, I was involved in a Fraternity at my other 4 year school…and students couldn’t move in until the year after they rushed. IE rush fall 07 move in fall 08. Do you know for sure it’s diff at UCLA? All my friends in fraternities haven’t been able to move in till after a year…
