Other schools have pushed Scholarship applications prior to announcing admission. It might be a numbers game where they use it to show selectivity, etc.?
Personally, I agree with you that asking students to write lengthy scholarship essays can be cruel if they don’t get admitted.
Well, the “withdraw my application” and the “change my start term” buttons are still working. (if you are wondering where those buttons are located, you need to click on the account icon above the student’s name on the home page). Boooooo, haha.
That’s some bad press if applicants who DID receive the email don’t get accepted, and vice-versa if applicants who didn’t receive the email are rejected/deferred.
Just jumping in here to point out that I know a parent who got an email about a “virtual Applying for Scholarships event” on Tuesday, about 48 hours after their kid submitted their RD app. So, I wouldn’t think much about emails about applying for scholarships.
I was going to say something similar. Mistakes are made. We received an email from Notre Dame with a reminder of the deadline for regular decision when my D25 had just been rejected ED the week prior. I wrote back and wouldn’t you know, the next day there was a broader apology email.
I head that their merit awards are small, around 6k for OOS students. It’s definitely a consideration for us. S25 really likes the idea of Boulder but we are in CA so the in state schools are much more affordable.
If you don’t mind, what do you believe the “high stats” cutoff is?
For refference, My son has a high GPA with 13 APs and a 33 ACT. He applied to Leeds Business School.
Once students move off campus cost of living skyrockets. Housing in Boulder is very expensive. Just another thing to take into consideration with the high OOS tuition.
