I keep hearing end of Feb/beginning of March for decision day… any inside info on this??
For nursing (BSN) they said starting March 1. It’s a long time to wait, for sure.
Does anyone know the rationale for UConn not having EA? It is the only state school I have encountered that doesn’t have it. Seems like they are missing out on a lot of students (especially OOS) who will have grown attached to other schools they’ve already heard from.
Agree! UConn was on top of her list but after hearing from so many others already, she’s losing a little of the excitement for UConn !
Same! We really liked the campus but it is a bit more $ than other OOS options like Penn State and Va Tech so we need to know if she would get any $ before we consider.
We’re strongly considering Fairfield, but would be nice to hear from UCONN before making that leap!! We live in Mass so with her chosen major we would be able to get the regional tuition break but still-don’t want to put all of our eggs in one basket-
Especially when we don’t hear for almost another month! Maybe we will get lucky and they’ll come out early haha!
Based on info in last year’s thread, Saturday Feb 24th in the mid-afternoon is a reasonable guess for this year. Sounds like they’ve favored Saturdays historically and have typically beat the March 1 date.
Which major? We’re also in MA. UConn is a contender for our D but not her top choice. I don’t think my D’s major qualifies for regional tuition.
I believe she did allied health for UCONN. The list should be on their website but if you google “regional tuition majors for UCONN” it’ll come
Up. A bunch of the New England state schools are doing this- I believe UNH is as well!
Does anyone know if UConn gives out much merit/financial aid?
I’m not sure about UCONN specifically, but so far my daughter has received wayyyy more from private schools than any state school she’s applied to. I think that’s usually the case, but not sure if UCONN is an outlier in that trend!
I thought I read somewhere that 35% of students get merit. We are hoping for $15 - 20 K to make it competitive with Penn State and Va Tech. Didn’t get merit there (is practically none) but sticker price at both is $10 K less than UConn. Only private she applied to is Syracuse because she doesn’t want a small school.
I heard that sometimes out of state flagships will give merit to equal the cost of the instate flagship. That was the case for us with UVM. My D got a nice merit scholarship which basically brought it to the cost of our instate flagship, UMass Amherst (who gave no merit).
Not the competitive state schools: Penn State, Pitt, UMD, UVA, Va Tech, UNC & Georgia give next to nothing in terms of merit. South Carolina, UVM, and Alabama give a lot to attract out of staters.
Yes, that’s why I said sometimes. I know that it’s not true for some state schools. Not sure about UConn.
UConn, at least for instate, is always March 1st.
I was awarded $20,000 in merit aid from UVM, but I am expecting next to nothing from V Tech and Penn State (already admitted to both). Based on last year’s tuition, fees, and room & board, the UVM sticker price was $60,268, UConns was $58,092, Penn State was $52,610, and V Techs was $51,388. UVM does not rank as well as the other schools, which is why I am guessing they are offering significant merit aid in order to attract higher-achieving high school students.
I am hoping UCONN is similar to UMASS Amherst in providing somewhat sizeable merit aid to OOS applicants. Looking at the thread for UMASS early action admits OOS students with very similar stats to Mass resident students were saying they were getting $14k to $16k merit aid vs $2k (if anything) for the instate students.
