Where do u see honors college???
What do you mean by this?
I suspect this post was accidental or ā ā ā ā ā ā ā ā . didnāt know I could write that word), put another way, was a post to rile people up and freak them out and perhaps was not accurate
yeah -kinda suspect for a first post on CC
I dont think UConn even has an Honors āCollegeā - just an honors program.
UConn is definitely in contention for our daughter, but we are from PA and have to consider the cost and distance. Can anyone answer if a lot of the kids (since most are in state) go home on the weekends? Hoping not⦠The campus and Storrs were very nice, but the surrounding area is what I consider rural. Are there things to do close by? Donāt want her to be boredā¦
great question to ask. My older daughter her in CT went to Indiana University this past Fall and said she was super lonely and bored on the weekends because everyone in her hall that she met (it was an LLC) lived locally and would always go home on the weekends. She wound up withdrawing after a few weeks and now commutes to college in New Haven from home.
I have heard that the campus is lively on the weekends, and the campusās location is a source of bonding.
Also - yes it is ārural,ā in a sense, but it is also not that far from Hartford and Providence (in fact many students at the Hartford campus commute from Storrs due to not wanting to miss out on campus life), and also NYC and Boston.
Thank you. She wonāt have a car so sheāll need to make friends with oneā¦
I think we need a program like Texas has at UT. This is ridiculous.
This is also my concern. Having formerly lived in that area, it is rural and not much to do. Even if you have a car, not alot going on in Hartford and Boston is about 1hr 45min. I also heard that the bball games are not all played in the coliseum and they ship to Hartford, like football.
If someone posts information that is unverified, ask for a source. If they do not provide one, I wouldnāt give much weight to that post or any other by that individual.
Best of luck to everyone!
Likely Penn State at this point.
for starters: in state applicant, nervous about tomorrow.
my momās friend works for uconn and says in recent years, theyāve been buying up more housing in stamford and attempting to shift popular student majors (such as business, data science, cs) to the stamford campus in order to make them more competitive as interns- after all, itās a thirty minute train ride into the city, which makes the commute much easier compared to storrs.
so it might not be a bad thing that youāve been ābranchedā to stamford- i applied for business, and i honestly think being branched there would be great! (hartford, not so much⦠but entirely different can of worms to unpack there, lol)
Thatās really interesting, and I personally love Stamford. The UConn building there is very cool. But itās not the college experience so many in-state kids had in mind when they applied to UConn and only checked the Storrs box.
I appreciate what you are saying. The problem is the lack of student life there, of growing the whole person. Some of these kids, mine included, have long lists of being a part of the community. Sports, theater, community service. They worked hard and want more than just core classes and a major. Stamford, in the end, is still a commuter school that isnt going to statisfy a lot of these students thirst for living and building community (not partying) during their college years.
The campus is hopping on the weekends. Lots to do and I would say most kids stay on campus. Definitely not a suitcase school. Lots and lots of school spirit, especially during basketball season.
Good to know- Just saw in another thread that someone posted how boring it is and everyone goes home on the weekends. Thought that was odd- itās a huge school for everyone to be going home.
If Freshman and most Sophomores canāt have cars it makes it really hard to go home too
Thatās not the case at all. The campus is very active on weekends.
My son received his acceptance about an hour ago.
