If it doesn’t say New England regional tuition, you might not have it. I would double check online by searching “UConn tuition break”. If you scroll down a bit, there is a button to view all majors + the states that qualify for it.
My portal showed New England tuition since I’m doing pharmacy
Highly unlikely as the crux of an animal science program is barns/farms and land. No science degrees are even offered in Stamford (i.e. biology, etc.). Super confused, guess we’ll wait and contact them next week.
The campus is really nice. It’s just in the middle of nowhere.
It will show up on the tuition billing if you accept and attend. My wife did this for one of the NE flagships and it was seamless. Get clarification for sure, but I wouldn’t worry about it.
Does her acceptance specify that major? Or does she just want that major? That’s a big difference. Animal science freshman take courses requiring animals on campus so you could argue through appeals on that basis. But if they didn’t give her the major (specified on acceptance) then you can try to appeal but they are not commonly changing their decisions.
Monday they will be bombarded with parents calling, most people answering phones are students. I recommend having her (not you) email the admissions officer for your location (if in CT it’s county specific) and ask this question.
Good luck!
Super confusing though that they accept you to a college within the University System that doesn’t even exist at the campus they accept you for. So how would they propose one complete the major? It still seems off to me. I could see if they didn’t accept her for her desired course of study and offering her Stamford with another major…but that’s not how it reads at all. Super confusing.
It’s very annoying indeed. Usually it specifies the major. If not then it’s just the college, have her read the letter carefully.
The idea is that they do regional, get some of the GEs done and then after 54 credits transfer.
My understanding is animal science has specific things they do freshman year (they are assigned a farm animal). It’s a popular major so she may not have gotten chosen for it.
If it does not specify the major, she needs to ask about whether she needs to appeal the major OR the campus OR both!
It’s v frustrating to students and parents (been there), but it usually is ok in end. Good luck!!
D24 accepted OOS CAS
3.8 uw / 4.3 w
33 ACT
IB diploma candidate
Team captain
$18500 merit
Thank you this is very helpful advice. When she’s home again later tonight we’ll review the letter again. There are specific courses needed even in the early years that are hands on in the barns, with the animals so I can’t see waiting till your junior year of college to transfer to Storrs campus.
Good luck and if she does need to appeal do it right away. Just know they sometimes wait a long time (like 5/1) to make decisions and often it doesn’t go in the way students hope.
Our experience is for her to keep communicating periodically with her admissions officer if she hasn’t heard.
My daughter accepted and into special program in law. For anyone who received merit scholarship was that info in the acceptance letter??
Yes merit aid was in our letter.
Looked at it again, clearly states accepted to College of Ag, Health Science, and Natural Resources at UCONN Stamford. While it specifies that college within the university systsem it does not state a specific major that she was accepted to. UCONN Stamford doesn’t have any majors within this college upon further investigation so she is going to reach out to the Stamford admissions rep to inquire about this. We figure the Storrs reps may be more flooded with messages next week so might get a faster response potentially. Most likely she’ll do the appeal for campus as you suggested and then also will reach out to the Storrs rep.
May I ask what law program are you referring too?
D24 got into business at storrs and 12k merit. Oos test optional 3.9/4.4
We are at admit day at different school which she will most likely be enrolling.
Daughter accepted in state, Storrs, business. 5k merit
1510 sat, 5.1 wgpa (3.95 uw), 10 AP.
Daughter applied to UCONN as a long shot based on what GC told her. Wasn’t expecting to get in but she was wrong. Strange how the admission people look at things. She was accepted to Storrs in Aces Program for Fall 2024
In State Catholic High School
3.2 GPA, 1 honors class junior year and 3 honors classes this year. No AP’s
2 Varsity Sports
No clubs or extra curricular
So i am not trying to be rude. And congrats to your daughter. But this is where so many people like myself get really confused. Based on the other schools my kid got into, I can’t imagine the essay or her recs had anything to do with her being branched. Maube its the number of people that applied to her major?
I have noticed that rigor and SATs are not putting the weight into thos decision as I thought they would.
did it mention the special program in her acceptance letter?
