University of Connecticut Class of 2028 Official Thread

I was curious on what is weighed heavier when UCONN is awarding merit. My daughter also had higher stats (along with leadership/great extras) than some of the people who received more merit based on what I’ve seen here. My daughter received 12k as well. OOS. She had less demonstrated interest there than the other colleges on her list, I wondered if that plays a role for UCONN?

I am also a College Advisor and UConn is not known to track demonstrated interest. We did a tour last fall, I would assume they have that info. Students who tour a school before applying are twice as likely to enroll in a school than those who didn’t.

Syracuse heavily weighs demonstrated interest so every time my daughter got an email I had her open and click around, as well as do virtual info sessions. Hoping that pays off in a scholarship, will see soon!

Next week there is a huge NACAC College Fair in my town, I will definitely chat up the UConn rep to see what I can find out.

Thanks for posting about this. Do you know if the CSS has anything to do with it? I’m wondering if an assessment of need is factored in? We completed the CSS and I still don’t know the real value as friends who didn’t also received merit $.

JLM1, are you referring to the CSS Profile? A limited number of schools use it, and UCONN is not one of them. UCONN only uses the FAFSA.

UConn does not take the CSS profile

UConn does not take other merit scholarship offers from other schools into account when they give out merit scholarships or merit scholarship appeals

I called their office earlier today and that’s what I was told^

Thanks for sharing. I did appeal and attached other offers - will post here when we get a response.

We submitted as well…have you received a response?

Has anyone begun to receive FAFSA aid packages?

Nope

We completed FAFSA on the 1st day available in January and got the results March 12. Out of 15 colleges applied to, a few show it is received, most do not. Have not received an official financial aid award (based on FAFSA) from any schools including UConn.

FAFSA has had a ton of issues with their new form so it’s delaying colleges! Generally FAFSA mostly only awards loans unless you’re eligible for a pell grant.

Did anyone consider or choose between Santa Clara and UConn?

Which do you prefer and why?

Any movement on the waitlist?

My daughter based on Admissions advice on Accepted Students Day submitted a major appeal. She submitted in April and did not hear back until around June 22nd. She has included a letter from a PT that she had worked with. It was an amazing, well written letter. She got her major appeal approved however she had decided the day before that she was not going to UConn. She loved the school but they rejected her merit appeal. The school she is attending is over $20k cheaper per year and has an accelerated dpt program (5 1/2 yrs vs 7)so she would have ended up paying double at UConn. I thought when the major appeal was approved she was going to have second thoughts but she ended up being annoyed that it took them so long to decide on her major appeal
