University of Delaware and Merit

Also received $12,000 per year. 4.2 weighted and 29 ACT. Still pricey but doable!

DC received the Delaware Scholar award ($6,500/yr). Also just realized that COE has a $4K differential fee. Cost is still too high at close to $55K. 3.8 wtd and 1500 SAT.

I’m so confused. My OOS daughter got the Trustee scholarship which is supposedly the highest according to the website it is between $12k-$15k per year but her award is only $7k per year.

S24 History / Three Languages
Presidential scholarship $12k per year
No mention of honors

Large NJ public HS
Known for grade deflation
3.7 UW GPA / 3.9 W
SAT 1380 (740/640)
6 APs

Sure oos, 15something :grimacing: sat, math major, honors college, 4.8 gpa, but what bums me out is that the tour was terrible. I wish you “stars aligning.” I just wish every student has that aha moment and the scholarship to go with it! Good luck :crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers:

same here. oos presidential. 1510/4.23/honors college with award under 5k per year. very confused. doesnt look they want us here. their awards r all over the place, not matching stats:) did u claim other scholarship as raiseme?

Please please call or email them. That is the amount of
Their in-state Presidential award. I’m willing to bet this was an error on their part.

The Delaware awards appear to be lower than last year’s awards on the compare site.

its all over the place that. look thru all our parents texts - trustee, highest got 7k for oos. if all parents, confused ones:), start calling them, then they will reconsider. otherwise we all leave

Yeah, I’d be absolutely shocked if this isn’t an error. 7k matches their in-state trustee, and 5k matches their in-state presidential. It seems too much of a coincidence.

UD’s financial services department seems to be struggling this year, given the strange delay in merit. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were rushing to get awards out and ended up with a few mix-ups between in-state and OOS.

Good luck and keep us posted!

If she is seriously considering UD, please email or call them. This sounds very much like a mix-up given that it perfectly matches their in-state Trustee scholarship. Good luck!

UD has a pretty steady formula for merit, you need to compare unweighted gpa since schools are all over the map with weighted. They do like test scores.

That 7k might be per semester. My son also got the trustee scholarship (56k total) and that’s how it was worded in his letter.

can u SERIOUSLY:) consider the instituition so ‘confused’ all over the place. now its parents managing the entrance. next year will be on our kids. at least 10 parents on this site got stunned

Called this morning and didn’t really get any answers. The person I spoke with was lovely, but couldn’t answer my questions or even see my daughter’s award. Our case has been referred to a financial specialist who will review it and get back to me via email in about a week. I’m told if I’m not satisfied with the response then I can schedule an appointment to speak with someone after that. Not ideal, but not really seeing any other options at this point. In the meantime, I think I know what happened. My daughter’s merit letter clearly states she received the Trustee award as an non-Delaware resident for a total of $28,000 over 4 years. We participated in the Raise.me institutional scholarship program and my daughter’s Raiseme account shows she earned a $7k per year scholarship from UD. I think (but I don’t have confirmation) that UD awarded her $14k per year Trustee, but is funding half of it with the Raiseme award and that’s why her Trustee award is only a total of $28k. For a number of reasons that I won’t go into, I have some concerns about this approach (it’s definitely not how other schools that awarded merit to her have handled any Raiseme insitutional scholarships) which is why I look forward to the opportunity to actually discuss this with someone at UD. So, for anyone else who was awarded a merit scholarship with an amount that wasn’t in the range of the named scholarship, perhaps it is related to Raise.me.

finaid (by email) came back to us right away. they clarified in our case that they combine our raiseme and add extras to reach the proposed presidential that came to total 12k per year for our oos. though we dont see it on our portal but only the new award that its not clear. reach them by email. it tells me all or most odds come from the hard to navigate a students portal w/o finaid confirmation of total.

Keep in mind this is a specific department at UD.

My older son is at another college. And while overall things are great, admin issues do happen. They happen everywhere.

financial aid and fin department is what drives us the most nowadays to make a final decision. the colleges we initially pick to apply for r on us. next step to pick an affordable option. they clarified, its not the error but no complete explanation of benefits. at least on our portal. sadly, lots of parents move on to more affordable options not trying to contact them and understand the all benefits. pitt is famous for great finair department. human. same with villanova. explaning clearely, responding fast. but… 0 scholarship:) unless u r in Honors or oos. sometimes

UD was a lot more generous than Pitt ($8000) and Villanova honors ($0). My daughter graduated UD honors in 3 years, saving money (although missed out on $17,000 the last year).

This is interesting. The person we spoke with this morning had never heard of Raiseme and couldn’t see my daughter’s merit award at all. I’m concerned if they end up reporting the Raiseme amount as Financial Aid vs. Merit scholarship as that will have some negative consequences for us. Do you happen to know if when they release the full award, the Raisme portion will be listed as scholarship or financial aid even though it isn’t remotely need based?
