Applied 10/19
Admitted today. Chemistry. OOS. 3.9 W. 1470.
Accepted ChemE out of state.
4.0 UW. Submitted 1520 SAT and AP exams: Calc BC (5); chem (5); biology (5); comp sci A(5); eng lang (5); world history (5);
Son OOS got into the Business program last night, 3.8 GPA, 1 AP, 1270 SAT
The top scholarship used to be $17,000 (besides the 100 invited to the distinguished scholars weekend). It might be lower now. They like a high test score.
Chiming in here with with a son who is currently a sophomore in the business school. A few notes that I hope are helpful to some of you.
As most or all of you know, decisions are typically released at 5pm on Fridays. There are exceptions. For example, my son and others were accepted the Wednesday evening before Thanksgiving, presumably because the university was closed that Friday.
From our own experience, acceptance emails tend to go out after the portals are updated with the decision. Itâs a bit stressful that way, but just be prepared.
Speaking of Thanksgiving, beware the âcuteâ admission portal updates. I donât know if they still do this, but the year our younger son was accepted, they updated the portal to show people joyfully throwing leaves in the air. It looked like a celebration, and apparently some students initially thought they were accepted because of that, when it really was just a holiday themed update. Poor kids thinking they got their acceptances and then realized the decision wasnât in yet. Acceptance decisions wonât be leaves flying in the air, but instead will be confetti and little blue hen faces, lol.
If your son/daughter is NOT among the earliest acceptances, please donât panic. Acceptances keep coming every week. This wasnât the case for our boys, but I did hear of situations in which UD asked some students for mid-year grades before making a decision. While this would certainly be upsetting, it truly does NOT mean a student has no chance. There have absolutely been cases of students getting accepted after providing mid-year grades.
Honors decisions do not come with the acceptances. Students are notified later.
For students who apply to a specific major but are accepted into University Studies, please donât stress if your child has their heart set on UD. Our son applied to business but was accepted to US. At the admitted students day, we attended a presentation about the US program. Our son absolutely loved loved loved what was presented and had an amazing conversation with the presenters after the program. A couple of weeks later, the university notified him that he actually could immediately switch into the business major (not sure why, as it is not a major that is hard to fill). He actually had to think about it before accepting that offer, as he was so impressed with the US program. In the end, he did end up going in as a business major, but heâd have been perfectly happy with the US program.
I have no idea when merit will be offered. Our oldest son, who had off the charts high stats (ultimately elected to attend a different school), was offered merit and honors not long after his acceptance. In the year our younger son applied, there was a massive fiasco with the new FAFSA process, and merit offers were not extended until March. No idea why, as merit had nothing to do with the FAFSA process, and he received merit offers from other schools with or shortly after his acceptance decisions. I think (hope) that was just a unique year and that your students will hear of any merit offers earlier.
Good luck to all!
Accepted last night! Applied late Sept Email came around 5:25. Comm major in Arts and Sciences. 1320 SAT. 4.5 W. Bunch of AP classes. For those waiting, I feel your pain. My older one is a junior there and we waited every Friday with our stomach in knots. Didnât hear until Jan 13! Stay strong!
Son applied on 10/26 and still waiting on a decision. Getting a bit nervous. OOS and applying for MechE. He got a 1350 on SAT but opted to apply test optional. Worried he should have submitted.
Strong grades, 6 AP classes. Hope we hear soon.
Is it too late to submit? My son submitted a 1390 3.7 gpa, and was even offered merit.
Applied EA on either 10/30 or 10/31 (I canât remember) as an In-State Student for their Flex program for Communications and still have yet to hear back. Application has just been sitting in the Downloaded status, Iâm also super impatient and anxious ![]()
Can he write a letter to admissions and ask if he can still submit his SAT for consideration? UDelâs Admitted Student Profile is: 3.65 - 4.22 (Mid-50% GPA) and 1135 - 1340 (Mid-50% SAT). For Honors, the student profile is 4.29 - 4.55 (Mid-50% GPA) and 1360 - 1480 (Mid-50% SAT).
I think you childâs score is excellent for the admitted student profile and could possibly be considered for honors with his score which would mean more merit. These numbers are from the UDel website. Good luck!
Delaware is very popular at our MA public school! Great school.
How long after admission did your son hear about merit?
Per last yearâs forum, merit letters started to rollout on 12/20. An email was posted to check your portal for merit it seems. Not sure if it is different each year, but per last year it was 12/20.
I read a few college faq that said they didnât allow switching from test to test optional and vice versa once application is submitted. I donât recall if UD was one of them
I donât want to stress my kid out by asking him to make the change (he has RD applications to work on ). Just hope that the schools were not lying when they said going test optional would not disadvantage applicants.
We followed counselor advice but itâs so ridiculous how distorted the perceptions are at high achieving schools in regard to SAT. All my kidsâ classmates are aiming for 1500 and above and retake the test until they achieve that so 1350 felt like a fail to my kid. That was a great score when I was applying.
Itâs still a great score for UD! TO doesnât hurt, but a good test score will obviously help. When my daughters were teens applied before COVID, merit awards seemed to be very dependent on test scores. After COVID, it seemed like gpa played more of a part.
Your child sounds like an amazing applicant! I am confident he will have an answer soon:) But I understand that it is a stressful process. This is my 2nd time around. I truly believe your kiddo will do great. To give you a little extra confidence, my 2024 daughter was test-optional and received a $12,000 annual merit scholarship from UDel. Most of her friends received the same, were test-optional, and got their acceptances a week or two before Christmas. My daughter is attending elsewhere, but this is a top pick for my â26 son. Good luck!!
. (Edit: My â24 daughter had a 96 W GPA and a 92 UW GPA)
I recently got in with a 3.88-3.9 weighted gpa and around a 3.6 unweighted gpa. I went to the open house Saturday and I was told that the engineering acceptance was around 40 percent. I could not find info online that confirmed this. I did 1 dual enrollment class with penn college of technology, and I did a technical school alongside my HS.
How did you like the open house?
Is it okay that my D26 submitted her 1190 SAT? Itâs in the middle 50 per UDâs website, and her GPA is below middle 50 (undiagnosed learning disorder until Junior year, significant uptick in grades after diagnosis/accommodations went into effect). Her counselor told her to submit it, sheâs just a very anxious kid.
It was solid. It was a self guided tour. Nice campus and I went to the information systems session. My mom had a meltdown over no coffee, but there was plenty of food.
