S25 admitted as undecided sciences Pioneer scholarship. These merit numbers are generous!
Congrats to all of the acceptances! My son is a freshman in engineering and loves it.
I am not sure if this thread is still active but I came across it and hope someone may see this comment. Worried mom here. My son is 1000% set on DU. He will be applying early action which I hear gives him a better chance of getting in.
Those that have gone through the process - do you find DU to be highly selective?
I am a legacy and absolutely loved it there. I think it may have influenced him. His gpa is not great (3.0) but we are hoping his SAT may make up for it. He is taking it in April. We are local as well but not sure if that makes a difference.
Just trying to grasp if he even stands a chance.
My son was accepted with merit during early action with just under a 3.4gpa. He did not submit test scores. He did visit, and attended the rep visit when DU came to his high school. I donāt know how strongly they consider demonstrated interest, but I would have him engage with the school where possible.
Thank you for your feedback!! We did a tour last year when he was a sophomore. He reached out to ask for volunteer opportunities but they didnāt have any at the moment. We are looking at other options to get engaged with the school. I am volunteering as an alumni a few times in the next few months so Iām hoping I can find something for him.
Did you do an interview?
My S did not interview. I donāt recall that being an option, but perhaps it is.
I donāt know if it makes sense for your family from a financial standpoint or otherwise (and note that it is a binding agreement), but DU does offer ED1 and ED2, which increases your odds of admission and is the strongest form of demonstrated interest:
Early Decision I and Early Decision II are binding applications and have earlier deposit deadlines.
- Students admitted during Early Decision rounds of admission receive an additional $5,000 merit scholarship
According to the most recently published common data set (2023), 82% of applicants that applied ED were accepted.
We are not an ED family. I wanted my kids to compare offers, and neither were 100% set one one particular school, but it might make sense for others.
When we toured 2 years ago (my son is a current freshman), they told us that applying EA or RD does not make a difference. ED1 and ED2 do give preference- especially when it comes to scholarship money. My son is very happy there. He did not do an interview and did submit SAT scores. Best of luck and hope you hear good news soon.
My son applied ea with a gpa just a touch higher than yours and got in (loves the school, but ended up getting into another school ed.) As far as I know they didnāt offer interviews.
