It is my understanding FSU doesnât have an ABET accredited program. Georgia does.
Correct, FSU is not ABET accredited.
Is UF ABET accredited? Also, how important is it?
Yes, UF is accredited and has been for a long time.
From ABET: "ABET accreditation provides assurance that a college or university program meets the quality standards of the profession for which that program prepares graduates. It verifies that your educational experience meets the global standard for technical education in your profession. Our accreditation is voluntary, and to date, 4,564 programs at 895 colleges and universities in 40 countries have received ABET accreditation. "
As someone who deals with accreditation, I know a lot goes into getting and keeping accreditation. It is one symbol of quality.
Some (but not all) employers will only hire from ABET-accredited programs. See below for sample job postings.
NASA-Engineering degrees earned within the United States: Engineering degrees earned within the United States must be from a college or university that has at least one ABET accredited engineering program
Boeing:ABET is the preferred, although not required,
Duke Energy: Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering obtained from an ABET accredited program, OR a Masterâs degree in Electrical Engineering in lieu of a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
US Airforce: Bachelor of Science in engineering from an ABET-accredited institution

The FSU Engineering School is a joint Program with FAMU
It is the only joint program with a HBCU

Being ABET accredited is important for Civil Eng, and sometimes for Mech Eng, especially if the engineer wants to take the PE exam.
Hello all, I have received this very interesting email on March 4th in my Gator Mail regarding financial Aid. Is this an actual scholarship? If not what could it be? I have both full Bright Futures and Pre-paid. Isnât it too early for those things to be disbursed?
@Melissa96
Thank you all for your help.
That looks like your Bright Futures award for summer B
This is what I believed it to be at first, however my brother who attends UF says that it would of been titled âFlorida Academic Scholars Award.â
This is what his looks like.
My son is a sophomore and what your brother showed you is what it looks like after it is paid, before each semester it looks like what is on yours, hence the âFL Academic SumBAdmitâ which means Florida Academic scholarship from BF for upcoming Summer B
I just had my daughter login to her one uf and hers looks exactly like yours and she is also a summer B admit
Hello,
We are on spring break this week with our boys who were both admitted to UF. We are doing an admitted campus tour on Tuesday morning, which consists of a brief talk with an admission counselor followed by a 90-minute student led campus tour. We would like to explore the campus a little more after that. Does anyone have any recommendations of things we should do or shouldnât miss? Thanks in advance!
First of all, congrats! My D23 loves UF so much and itâs quite an hour to be admitted. They should take you into one of the dorm rooms in Simpson or Graham. But if you have time, I would stop by Jennings Hall. They have a showroom opened every day. That helps get an idea of what the dorms are like. Jennings is a very popular dorm with Freshmen who are looking for a very social experience. (communal bathrooms). Also, the area around Reitz Student Union, where the tours start has been under alot of construction and I personally donât think it looks that impressive. The older part of campus is much prettier and itâs nice to walk around. If you like pizza, I would recommend going to https://www.satchelspizza.com/. Itâs a bit of a drive but really good.
My D is a Biomedical Engineering senior at FSU so I need to correct the record here, which can be easily found with a simple Google search or on the ABET website. She has a couple of nice job offers with prominent pharmaceutical companies that she wouldnât have if their programs werenât ABET-accredited:
Is anyone here debating between UF and William & Mary? If so - what are your thoughts? Weâre heavily leaning towards UF, but W&M is still a possibility.
