Deshantis is fine. The proposed changes are not a big deal to me. He is doing what many conservatives want the high education to be. Off course some don’t like, including many UF faculty
I like that DeSantis kept his state mandate and lockdown free. I saw first hand the devastation that mandates caused many, some even losing their careers and jobs.
Agree and we are one of them.
Would you say that’s your main reason? Or do you also agree with his policies/opinions on higher education?
Both.
It will be interesting to see the admitted student profile. FSU’s basically stayed the same, despite the increase in applications.
UF historically has been very liberal and the whole notion it it super conservative is a misnomer. There was a Karl Marx Study Room inside Library West in for 8 years and the name was only changed in 2022. The University has the highest percentage of Chinese Nationals in the State studying here. Sasse, the President of UF voted to impeach Trump. While some of the changes happening in Florida are making the state moe conservative UF is not conservative leaning.
I think that will be the same at UF. They got 7,000 more only (seems big, but is not really for a university of that size) and I think the growth was mostly with lower stat students similar to FSU.
This is 100% incorrect. DeSantis did order a lockdown.
For a very short time, then opened the state right up, including schools.
Waiting on UF too, FSU accepted and really like campus and vibe, Auburn Honors accepted, great campus, very friendly, great vibe, Honors is interesting ………so UF?
uw: 3.58 uw: 4.76 core: 4.3 sat: 1340 am i ■■■■■■?
The UF Common Data Set says class rank is “considered.” From my observation over the last 4 years or so, I have seen no better predictor of ‘who will get in to UF’ than the combination of class rank & SAT score.
My concern for you is that, with a 3.58 UW, you are outside the top 10% of your class. Is that correct? If so, it will be difficult with a 1340.
i am surprisingly in the top 12% of my class but i don’t know what difference it makes. I have been going by ufs core gpa model and now I’m freaking out over my uw gpa
You are below the average SAT and below the average UW GPA. Getting into a Top 30 school is already rough and this makes it even harder. I hope you beat the odds and come back and tell us you were accepted. Hope for the best but prepare for the worst.
Have you seen anything regarding high schools that don’t rank?
Correct. UF is probably the most liberal campus in the state; known for is diverse groups and populations and traditions on campus. And the idea of a very temporary gov who will be gone in a couple of years having a lasting impact is very misguided. FL has been a great state long before the last 2-3 years lol and so have our universities….and both will continue to thrive regardless of the ebbs and flows of governance.
I think new college is a bit more liberal, but UF is definently number 2 from what I have researched.
Under 72 hours now everyone. Almost there!
