University of Florida Class of 2028 Official Thread

If it wasn’t for the tuition waiver, would you still commit to FSU (if you don’t get into UF)?

That’s smart! I wish that I could extend my decision deadline but the housing deposit for UNF can’t be cancelled after March 1st unless you pay 500 dollars, so I’m in a bind lol.

Would be amazing if more schools did OOS waivers! I was originally interested in leaving Florida for my education but quickly realized that it just wasn’t affordable.

Yeah - $500.00 is a lot! At FSU, the housing deposit is $225 - and if you end up not enrolling there, you get all of it back except $50.00. Also, at UCF, you get back a good chunk of the housing deposit back as well (I can’t remember how it was though - maybe $200). We just want to see the campuses before making a decision. Also, we are waiting on William & Mary (where we think we have an okay shot of getting into) and Carnegie Mellon and UPenn - another two schools that are impossible to get into.

Yeah - if you have Bright Futures - you definitely don’t want to give that up (unless “maybe” for an Ivy). But even then . . . the financial savings with Bright Futures is huge. I am very jealous of all the Florida folks - wish my state had something similar!

Yes, definitely thankful that I do not have to, at least, worry about tuition during my four years! Plus with the pell grant that I’m likely to receive, I’ll be getting a pretty good deal hopefully

I don’t think so.

US News, niche, really all the sites are a few years behind for some reason in updating the acceptance rates. I know the current rates for Georgia, Clemson, etc… are wrong Clemson’s info last year was 38% but all the sites have them 46-49%. UGA’s is off as well.

Yeah. I think the acceptance rate I last heard that was accurate was 21% in state 19% OOS.

What school is that for? I heard Clemson this year was 36% (both in state and out of state combined).

Sorry for being confusing, I was talking about UF for last year.

@Melissa96 Are you able to share this year’s UF admissions averages yet or do you know if that will come out later this week? Thanks

I also think you are up against the pool of candidates within your same geography, even high school for a college like UF. When many within the same high school apply, it’s gotta make it more difficult for applicants within that group.

good points! I like when you have more opportunities to show your worth and value!

I can share when they are officially released which is not as early as FSU releases theirs.

I don’t think it is more difficult within the same high school if you are qualified. For years my kids small public Florida high school always has at least 35 to 45 students in the same graduating class accepted.

I feel like all the googled acceptance rates are old and wrong…

Yeah, agree with you.
I feel some schools want to use numbers and list of activities/achievement to judge you, while some others care more about how you got there, what you learned from the experience, how those activities shaped you, what you will possibly become, … I think UF is one of the former (the relatively easier process of the two)
