University of Florida Class of 2028 Official Thread

What do you think helps them see an applicant as someone who likely will attend? Thereby protecting their yield

We already have one gator and another in state kid which they ask, but they say it doesn’t matter
Do they ask about Florida pre paid?

The info from UF that was posted yesterday indicated that: level of interest is “not considered”

I’ve noticed a lot of colleges say that. It’s possible there’s a difference between tracking who does tours, contacts AOs, etc… and figuring out from a data perspective who tends to enroll. Somebody posted a YouTube of a UF admissions presentation to a university board a few weeks ago. They are definitely engaged in yield strategies. It’s something that matters to them for sure. (FYI my kid did not apply to UF, but since they’ve had an enormous jump in applications, it’s a school that really interests me.)

That’s interesting because they told us that being there for a tour makes a difference… maybe not.

Seems then that being a legacy would be a factor, but apparently it is not.

I’m also a gator , which we were told legacy does not matter
But they do ask, and idk how else any school can predict who is likely to accept the offer
Tho I totally agree with you that it is obv important to protect the yield
Just not sure how they get that info
Can’t remember if they ask about Florida pre paid on application?

Honestly, it does not mean much anymore. Perceived nepotism. Unless, of course, the alum is a regular donor.

they do not - we are OOS but have florida prepaid and they have no way of knowing (from us at least)

Agreed and I also think it’s smart to have the application fee low because the more who apply the lower a college can say it’s acceptance rate is. More applications at less money still equals good revenue plus lower acceptance figures.

Any portal astrology from past years?

No nothing from the past few years.

Ugh so gonna have to wait until 6 tomorrow :sob:

When I attended an information session for graduate school this past summer, the admissions officer said showing interest does matter to them. I guess undergrad is different. Attending an information session or touring the school is a couple ways to show interest.

Legacy has become fraught, and nobody is sure what it means in this current cycle.

This is because of the Supreme Court decision on affirmative action in college admissions. The same guy who (successfully) initiated that test case is now looking to initiate a case against legacy admissions.

From what I understand, in light of the SCOTUS decision, some colleges are voluntarily removing legacy as a consideration, beginning with this cycle. Some are not. Nobody really knows what it means now, and we will only know when we look back on this cycle.

Is it bad that I never put down a housing deposit? I didn’t know that they had opened it so early, and my parents weren’t keen on paying it before knowing I was accepted or not, especially since it’s a reach (which is understandable). Do you think there will still be housing available in, say, March?

It’s probably either has no effect or such a little effect that it won’t matter for admissions. But it obivously does matter for your place in line to pick housing. @Melissa96 Can you tell us if you consider whether or not someone has paid their housing deposit in admissions as a sign of demonstrated interests? Thanks

Do scholarships come out tomorrow? I heard people say that they come out a week later, which is really strange to me.

I heard next week as well.

The housing deposit has nothing to do with admissions. The deposit only serves to act as a priority number in choosing a dorm. It is not a sign of interest. Those in the honors program though have automatic priority for honors housing.

We do not consider demonstrated interest as in campus tours or housing deposits for making decisions.

Tomorrow evening freshman decisions are going out.

Next week those students offered admission who also applied for the grandparent waiver will be notified if it was awarded or if they are waitlisted.

The first week in March should be the Merit Scholarship notification.
