University of Florida Class of 2028 Official Thread

Honors decisions are released tomorrow though, correct?

That’s what email said. But if it’s not metioned in your letter, it means rejection

Yes, if honors is offered it will be in the admission letter.

Thank you!

The real question–is UF ready for the overload on their servers at 6pm tomorrow? (I remember the year they went down
)

YES! That was definitely not my favorite decision release

Out of curiosity, can you tell us how “popular” the GP waiver was this year and roughly how many the state gave UF? Trying to manage expectations for a child who is driving me nuts! If you can’t give numbers, I understand, but something like we had 10 times more applicants than available waivers, etc, would be helpful. Thank you.

I can tell you that last year, my kid applied at the last possible day (like Nov 7 bc/o a hurricane extension), applied for the GP waiver immediately after and was waitlisted until the day after the commitment deadline—like May 1-4. So he committed not knowing if he wd get it but got it immediately after. A friend who applied in October was waitlisted at first but knew she had it several weeks before she had to commit.

@Melissa96, do you know when tuition exchange decisions will be made and notifications sent?

Definitely much more popular than last year which was more popular than the year before.

Please Note: Parents and students seeking grandparent waiver guidance should visit the following link:

From the guidance document for state university system (Florida):

  1. A maximum of 350 new students system-wide may be granted a grandparent waiver
each academic year. For instance, in the 2023-24 fiscal year there may be up to
700 students with waivers system wide, assuming the 350 students awarded in the
    2022-23 academic year re-enroll.

So
not too many (but I don’t know how many apply)

Yes and the amount each university gets varies

I assume if a grandparent passed away, even if it they were a long time FL resident and it was only two years ago, the student is not eligible for the grandparent waiver?

I think the GP has to be alive at the time of admission for the student to receive it. I believe that if the GP passes away during the 4 year undergrad timeline they will honor it. I think I read that on the government website.

They switched up the website with a countdown: https://admissions.ufl.edu/

Hey guys!! Super nervous for tmrw!

I am a high student and I am dual enrolled fully at a local community college in Florida.

I will be majoring in industrial engineering and will have completed an A.A. by the spring of this year.

I will also have completed courses like Calc 1, 2, and 3, General chemistry 1, and physics 1 with calculus, and physics 2 with calculus. I will have my pre reqs for my degree for upper division.

College GPA is 3.71 (only 2-3 Bs rest As).
High school GPA UW is 3.95 W is 4.95
SAT 1330 ACT 29
I did varsity cross country and track for 3 years,
I worked at Publix,
And I was VP of key club for 3 years.

Do you think I’ll be rejected as a freshman and asked to apply as a transfer simply because I seem too over qualified? Or do you think I’ll get the green light tomorrow that I am in?

My only concern would be the test score being a bit low, but you definently still have a chance. The GPA they will use will be the recalculated one based on your HS transcript, not your direct college GPA.

Do you know if the Honors village will be ready for fall of 2024?

Thanks! Yeah if I do end up getting rejected as a freshman then I won’t need my tests scores to apply as a transfer, so it didn’t matter too much for me. I only wanted the bright futures, so after I got those scores, I stopped doing the tests.

The SAT/ACT doesn’t demonstrate any knowledge in the grand scheme of things. It is the dumbest test ever in my opinion.

Good luck! I think a 4.95 can definently compensate for the test score. I think your chances are better than not. Especially is essay and other EC’s are good.
