University of Florida Class of 2028 Official Thread

Can you ask for reconsideration in a different major. I know at PSU, if you don’t get in, you can ask for reconsideration in another major… no one at PSU is in their actual major until after their sophomore year… so you can go into a undeclared or easier major and then just apply into the major you want at the end of your sophomore year.

Yes. My daughter (Stats mentioned above) is in the top 7% of her grad class of 1000 seniors. 4k student HS of an A rated highly competitive FL high school. The capping of numbers is unfair and wrong to our in state kids. My kid now has to continue taking classes at UF with UF professors for 3 months, getting A’s alongside current UF students, then watch OOS kids attend in the Fall while she was rejected from her dream school. It’s all wrong.

It is possible they think he would be unlikely to attend UF because of his high stats. It is also a yield game for the schools so they look more selective. They try to let in kids they think will be more likely to accept to keep their admit rate low. If they think a kid’s stats are too high and they are unlikely to attend because they are likely applying to other schools they may defer/waitlist/reject. We have seen this here with son’s friends, 36 ACT and deferred from our flagship school, UW Madison.

If you can attend an admitted students day you will see all the amazing opportunities UCF has to offer. Good luck in your decision you have 2 great options!

You keep saying this. You live in one of the few states that mandates standardized tests. The state leadership feels that standardized tests are very important. Some in this thread have legitimate complaints but no one should be upset when their SAT is about 100 points below the average.

I think another reason why the OOS acceptances might seem so high is because of yield. They know that most OOS will turn them down, so they let in extra to reach their goal of OOS percentage. On the other hand, in state will likely attend so they can only let it close to the exact number of slots they have.

This is highly likely! I applied to several OOS schools but I decided to reject my acceptance because I have such good offers in state.

Can someone please explain to me next steps sorrounding on campus housing. I paid the $25 today and see something opens next Wendesday 2/28. Is that when I pick my residence or what? I’m really new at this part of college. I focused so much on admissions that I don’t really understand how this stuff works.

Sasse described low tuition costs as radically underpriced and “an economic model that doesn’t make sense.”
“We are the only state that loses money on every student,” Sasse said.

I think one of the issues of admitting more oos students could be about money ($28,658 vs $6,380).

That’s amazing. That’s basically all of them!

Just saw Yale is back requiring standardized tests, really the only way to equate students, as grade inflation at various schools is misleading,

Tests certainly can be taken a few times and now most superstore.

Florida schools have it right.

Apparently you have no insight into the amount of kids in state kids rejected with stats at or above the OOS kids just in this forum. I can provide you with MANY beyond my own child. Not to mention the test is one of several factors. Today friends of ours have 1400’s and rejected in state. My kid is above most in every other stat category and has 4 A’s at UF right now! lol. Yes it’s absurd.

GPA is only one of their 6 most important factors. Rigor, essays, EC’s, talent, and character/ personal qualities are the others. I am not saying your daughter doesn’t have character but it’s “demonstrated” character so maybe it just didn’t come through in her application and her essays.

SAT/ACT is only “important” along with volunteer work, first gen, and work experience.

Class rank Is only “considered” along with residency, and geographic location.

Alumni, race, religion demonstrated interest, and rec letters are not considered.

It just feels like you’re focused on only 2 factors and one isn’t even their top priority.

Maybe your real beef is that they don’t consider residency or geography but it can’t just be all Florida kid., That doesn’t create a diverse social environment. You want students to be exposed to people from all over. It’s good for networking and it’s good for their growth.

Same reason GA Tech focuses so strongly on well-rounded students and they’ll turn down the world’s smartest hard-core overachiever in favor of someone who also has demonstrated great social skills.
