University of Florida: Regular Decision 2024

Not yet…We are waiting eagerly as well

I applied to the college of arts and sciences, during orientation am I allowed to switch undergrad schools or is there a special form I need to fill out? I would like to go from the CAS to the engineering school.

@Stardust2187 If you are coming in as a Fall or Summer admit as a freshman, you can change your major anytime. I have heard it is easiest to change it at Preview (UF’s orientation) where you select your first semester classes. If you are a transfer student, then that’s a different thing entirely.

I have seen some rather negative comments about uf on some of the FSU forums which I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. I wanted to get some feedback from anyone that has a student at uf and what your experience has been. My twins want to major in bme and since the degree at FSU isn’t even accredited yet, UF is their first choice. I worry about the size of uf and the supposed crowding

@twinmommy Noise. Both are excellent schools with, frankly, very similar pros and cons.

@GoGreenWave You ought to trust your intuition. No amount of favorable rankings will offset the wrong environment if you know your child well.

I am a UF alumni and more than a little chastened none of my three kids enjoyed the campus environment at UF or Gainesville after visiting - or after acceptance there. Too big and “scooter school” echoed in my ears from each one. They are all HS graduates from the last four years while UF has been basking in the rankings uplift.

My UF education is paying for all of them to attend other universities, however the environment did not make the feel at home or there was a community waiting for them.

@twinmommy My D is a freshman at UF and having an excellent experience. She actually likes the size and scope of the campus.

FWIW we toured FSU the day before UF and there was definitely some bashing of UF by the FSU crowd. Honestly, we were a little concerned about what we were going to experience on the UF tour based on comments by parents and tour guides. They portrayed the tour as nothing short of a forced march!

Needless to say, that was not our experience at all. We are OOS so we didn’t have any preconceived ideas or prejudices.

I’ve toured a lot of colleges, big and small, between two kids and they really all are different. Not necessarily better or worse, just different.

@twinmommy There’s definitely a rivalry between the schools. A lot of it comes from football plus UF has had a dramatic rise in the academic rankings, and I’m certain that there are UF students and alums who like to stick it to FSU in that regard.

But both are good schools and I think the rivalry becomes more friendly as you get older. (For example, when FSU won the national title a few years ago, I didn’t root for them and I didn’t want them to win – just being honest; but I was really happy for my friends who are FSU alums because I knew how much it meant to them. Not sure if that makes sense. That being said, I like a good FSU joke as much as the next Gator.)

@twinmommy I have a son who is a current freshman anticipating majoring in BME (he will have to apply during his third semester and be formally accepted into the program). That is the same for many (if not all) majors at UF. He is busy taking all of his critical tracking classes. He loves UF so far and has transitioned to college life very well. He’s an OOS student and knew no one at the university when he started. He has said that he has learned how to study effectively and has studied more during his first semester than he did in all 4 years of high school! I think it is one of the most difficult majors that is offered and requires more credits to graduate than other majors.
He is home on Spring Break and brought 3 Gator buddies with him for a week of skiing and snowmobiling. It seems that you can have a good balance of hard work and fun at UF!

Does anyone know when the financial aid offers will be released and if it will be email or regular mail?

@alliern we are OOS as well and am glad my twins have each other as they are coming from a small high school. Thanks for the reassurance. We are going to admitted students day March 16 so we are super excited to finally see the campus!

@twinmommy I have a 2024 son heading to UF as well. Super happy that my boys will be together for a few years as well. Their high school is very small too.
Enjoy touring the campus!

@alogan I contacted admissions and was told we should hear something about freshman scholarships and financial aid via the student’s application status page after office hours this evening.

did they give you and estimate time by any chance? Anxious to know if I received anything!!!

Same here, no news yet via portal or email. :frowning:

no news… are we sure it comes out tonight

This is a bit annoying . . .

Anyone hear anything about scholarships yet?

Have not received scholarship and financial aid letter even though admissions office said we’d get it last evening. Anyone receive anything?

My twins didn’t receive anything yet.
