University of florida space available basis

I am an out of state applicant that applied to The university of Florida but after nov 15 unfortunately although it has now probably become my top school. I think I would’ve been qualified had I applied on time but now I’m really worried that I don’t even stand a chance because they only accept on a space available basis.

My sat score is a 1430 (740 math, 690 reading)

My gpa is 4.08. Apparently it’s low for Florida but that doesn’t make sense because they all have like 4.2 or 4.3 gpa’s which doesn’t correlate to their average sat score in the 1300’s. Seems like Florida boosts the crap out of their gpa’s. Basically I’ve taken 10 ap’s throughout hs and have gotten mostly A’s and a handful of B’s up until this year where I got a C in calculus BC which is also freaking me out.

I was in 3 clubs and a bunch of honor societies and I did 3 sports and I coached and had a job and basically I have a lot of extracurriculars, but no leadership roles. I also competed and placed at a regional science fair. Also I’m Latino.

I feel like I had a good chance had I done regular but I want to know if I even have a chance anymore now since my application is not a priority at all. Does anyone understand exactly how space availability works?

Hi! You definitely seem qualified. Unfortunately, applying after the Nov 15 deadline places you at a disadvantage. According to the admissions blog, “space-available basis” means your application will be reviewed for admittance if there is space left in the freshman class.

They’ve also said that “typically, less than 1% of the students who applied after the application deadline were admitted into the freshman class”. You can read more here: http://www.admissions.ufl.edu/blog/2017/10/16/admissions-faq.html

Keep your hopes up! Even if you don’t get in, there are other ways to attend UF, like transferring.

In my opinion, GPAs really vary by school in Florida. I think class rank is pretty telling of how difficult or easy a school grades.

Do decisions get released this Friday?

Yes, on the 2nd Friday in February. I think after 6pm eastern?
