I assume your merit came the next day at 3AM. Where did you see it in the portal? Is it posted as a separate dropdown from admission and Honors?

No. My merit was in the letter right when it came out. The invitation to set up UGA email for housing and all that stuff was what came at 3am. That was to the email I applied with.

Instate Zell but at this point the grades etc mean nothing in the state of GA. We will all be out 20 grand or more for housing and meal plans at schools a 2.0 would be admitted into. Ughhhh

Daughter took all Honors and APā€™s ex AP chemistry etc never scored below a 96% in a class. She had one leadership position in a media class -. Never could be lower than 4.0 having scored 96 and up in everything

So just to be clearā€¦ Your daughter never scored below a 96% in a class in her high school career, got a 1340 SAT, and got waitlisted? OOS or In State?

Yea we just canā€™t afford University of Alabama or Auburn etc. so sad they work so hard and itā€™s a slap in the face.

Sorry to hear that. Itā€™s tough when thereā€™s a big drop off to the next best in-state option. Are you sure Alabama would be that much more expensive than in-state at UGA. With your daughterā€™s stats Iā€™m pretty sure she qualifies for automatic merit and might be able to get additional scholarships at UAā€¦but maybe youā€™ve already explored that?

Iā€™m so sorry to read this. She sounds amazing and an asset to any school. Has she considered other GA publics where Zell would also apply? She could then transfer to UGA if she didnā€™t want to stay all 4 years. I know a lot of kids from the Atlanta area start at North Georgia or Kennesaw with that intent, but there are obviously other options.

Fingers crossed for the waitlist though.

So sorry. Your story is difficult and weā€™ve been there and experienced it in FL. It feels unfair and youā€™re not wrong. :disappointed:. It truly angers me to see these things happen to any in state kid. Iā€™m a huge proponent of talented in state kids getting the max priority

And us in ILā€¦ Got into FSU and UGA- rejected from UIUC.

15,000 in scholarships but cost is 48,000 -
Our max is around 20,000 yr so a no can do.
