University of Georgia Early Action Class of 2030 Official Thread

I just wanted to say that my daughter has almost the exact same stats and ECs to yours! And she’s our third

Good luck in the remaining schools she is waiting to hear from!

We are going to hold out some hope for merit, but know we can’t count on it. Daughter will need to make a case to us for attending UGA because other schools have offered a lot more merit and don’t run the risk of not getting into her preferred business program. Alas, UGA is her favorite.

Good luck to your daughter. We went through this last year for my D25, and initially UGA was not in the reckoning for us; but once all decisions were out, we found that even without merit UGA OOS tuition and dorm/dining fees was significantly lower that other comparable public schools (even after factoring the merit). It was in fact close to our in state flagship fees.

Regarding the first choice major in Terry, please know that it works very differently than standard admits at other schools. For one, UGA does not admit anyone directly, so all seats are up for grabs unlike at Kelley for example, where majority of slots are direct admit. Second, the selection criteria is very reasonable and only looks at grades in certain courses. Most students do end up getting what they want, but obviously not all.

My D25 loved Terry so much during her tour that she eventually picked it over several other direct admit offers from comparable schools.

Our D26 ran into glitches with the payment process for housing - it did eventually go thru that afternoon.

She reports receiving an email from UGA housing last night - that they were aware of the site overload and glitches in payment - so they are going to slot housing application in order based on the time you -started- your housing deposit application (apparently).

Questions on if there is anything to be done while being deferred. What should she do to show continued interest, if neccesary? Thanks.

UGA does not track demonstrated interest. Just be sure to submit the senior year fall semester grades by deadline. Good luck!

DS26 received Presidential Leadership award and Honors college acceptance together with admission. Stats: 4.43 UGA GPA, 36 ACT, 1520 PSAT, 1560 SAT, 16 APs, 11 Honors, NMSF, strong ECs, essays, and LoRs. Missed deadline for submitting Foundation Fellowship application, but that would likely have required yet another level of achievements. The way UGA handled the payment problems with Housing Registration, coupled with so much transparency about the admissions process on their Admissions Blog has left a very solid impression on my student.
