University of Georgia Early Action Class of 2030 Official Thread

I am heartbroken for her. Just know this is something that a lot of in-state students go through as well. I think in state is more self selecting because they understand how competitive UGA is and don’t bother applying. David Graves talks about this on the blog. Out of state students don’t necessarily grasp the competitive nature of UGA admissions. An unweighted GPA of 3.6 is not competitive for UGA admissions even in state and out of state is harder.

I would suggest reading the UGA admissions blog and the comments. My understanding is if a student is denied EA then a later application would not have improved their chances.

You cannot register for housing until you are accepted.

I feel for him, my son wanted UGA and it’s frustrating to see lower stats get in. He had 4.0, 1450, 12 AP with all passing and advanced levels of math and language, National merit -OOS DEFERRED

@VirginiaBelle or others - son accepted, 1340 SAT, 4.5 GPA, no merit but letter said its not over and they have other rounds of merit, and to wait. Do you know if the other rounds of merit every amount to anything for OOS, and if so, is it holistic or based on numbers

Hi! I was wondering if anyone’s child from OOS who was accepted and awarded merit or accepted to honors would mind sharing their child’s stats? We are OOS and my daughter was accepted (yay!) but no merit or honors. She had a 4.17 (UGA calculation), 1570 SAT, ranked 1/170 - 3 APs/2 DE junior year, 3 APs/4 DE currently. Varsity athlete, lots of ECs, Volunteerism, National Merit commended, other school and national awards. Just curious as UGA is definitely a contender, but would need some merit aid. Thanks!

Mine did and stats are pretty similar. National merit commended, 34 ACT, 4.4 UGA GPA, 10 APs, 4 DE. Lots of extracurriculars, 600 service hours, a competitive summer program.

She got both honors and the Classic scholarship and she is pretty flattered because her stats are “mid” for out of state acceptance as she says. So I guess it’s one of those you never know things. I’ve seen higher stats deferred.

I don’t have a lot of experience with UGA but for your planning purposes from my research it seems like more merit being awarded is possible and the most likely would be the Classic scholarship (about $10,400). Beyond that the main hope for merit I believe is the Foundation Fellowship. So if you need more than the $10,400 you probably need to get invited to interview for that which you should know in early January.

It does not seem like they encourage hoping for much additional merit to come along.

One of the UGA experts can correct me if I’ve got it wrong here.

My son was accepted OOS with honors and the presidential leadership scholarship (~20k/year in tuition and 3k/year grant). He has a 4.0 UW (not sure about UGA gpa), 14 APs (seven 5s, two 4s so far), 2 DE, 2 Honors, 1540 SAT, lots of community service and leadership.

For those of you asking about housing plan to be ready to pay the deposit around 7 am tomorrow. Last year I thought it opened at 8 and I think it opened around 7:15 or so. We got ours in right before 8 am. In May when housing opened up to actually pick your dorm people started at 9 am and she had a 2 pm slot based on when we paid our deposit in December. By 5:00 the first day several dorms were already full. All this to say pay your deposit as soon as it opens tomorrow morning.

not making it into the pay page, too busy?

Anybody know when UGA historically releases next round of decisions?

Same here

Try now, DS26 succeeded in making payment.

Mid March. Typically the second Friday of March at 4pm EST.

I got through to pay and credit card processing didn’t work. This is not a great first impression for UGA!

FYI, don’t bother calling. I was on hold and finally got someone, and they were useless. Friendly, but useless.

They will continue to award merit until April. It is definitely possible to get merit aid until then even if not awarded with acceptance. That being said, most out of state admits do not get a scholarship, so it is very competitive.

The Foundation Fellowship requires a separate application. That is a full ride scholarship similar to Morehead Cain at UNC or the Jefferson scholarship at UVA and is highly competitive. The application deadline for that was November 1.

My DD is a food science major at UF

My son is an OOS applicant who was deferred (expected. His HS doesn’t allow students to take AP or DE until their junior year). Anyhow…today he received an invitation to apply to the honors college. Is this a normal process at UGA? Do all deferred students get an invite? I’m trying to gauge what this means and to be honest, I don’t even know the right questions to ask, so all insight is appreciated. Thanks!

Admissions and the Honors College operate 100% separately. As the honors college deadline is approaching, my guess is all students who have submitted a completed application will get an invitation
