University of Georgia Early Action Class of 2030 Official Thread

I think in the RD round they will take a little longer to understand the high school and do a more holistic review. Good luck!

What was the decision for your daughter? I really hope she got in EA.

The admissions

OOS D26
UGA GPA 4.2x (HS WGPA 4.4x)
Rigor 13 AP/IB (6 are this year)
ACT: 33 // Reading: 36 Math: 32 English: 32 Science: 32
SAT: 1450 (R/W: 730 Math: 720)
EC: Numerous and quite well balanced - Leadership Volunteerism Work Athletic Participation, though nothing elite, national recognition, or State championship level.

The first school she has heard from in EA (NC has like 25-30 auto admissions to State Schools based on HS GPA thresholds). UGA is in her “Top 5” (We won’t rank til decisions are in and then go visit the campuses) and the other 4 are also high target to reach level schools - so for her this is a big ‘get’ and you could see the tension lift off her shoulders having her first “Yes” to a school she’s truly excited about.

Congrats to others who also heard good news.
Good luck to those who were deferred with strong resumes - as parent this is our third child thru, and we’ve been there with our other two before so I empathize with the frustrations and tension of knowing it feels like a let down and a long wait until Regular Decisions are out. Things do seem to work out with positive outcomes for most kids, even if it’s not at one particular school. I feel for you on the period of waiting just to have a decision though
 Good luck.

Daughter deferred. OOS (Colorado) Not sure of UGA GPA but only 4 Bs throughout HS, 11 APs (6 this year), 1320 SAT. HS GPA is 4.6.

Are these stats the only consideration in EA? She’s got solid ECs, great recs, great writer. Business focus in ECs.

Anyone know percentage of EA applicants deferred and percentage that usually gets in RD?

do you have to put your enrollment deposit down first or just be accepted?

While specific percentages are not known, the vast majority of EA OOS applicants are deferred. Those closer to 75% of typically enrolled student stats are easy admits and those significantly below the 25% are rejected.

From my experience the least they look for an EA OOS admit is that both GPA and test scores to be in mid-50% range, and at least one of them closer or over the 75% mark.

No need to put enrollment deposit before May 1st. You only need to put $25 (?) housing deposit in order to secure your turn for housing registration.

Really recommend you follow the UGA admissions blog - and read the comments section because Dr. Graves often answers more detailed questions in response.

Applications Received: 34,280+ Total/20,730+ Out-of-State/Intl applicants
Offers of Admission: 10,760+ Total Offers, with 4,600+ Out-of-State/Intl offers

Q:Is there any information available about the number of OOS students deferred? Obviously 21k applied and 4600 were accepted this round. What’s the breakdown of the 17k remaining? Any data on “average” (I recognize year to year variability) number of deferred applicants that get accepted in RD?

A: Roughly 5,000+ were denied, about 1500 or so were deferred incomplete, so the rest were deferred additionally. I can’t even begin to guess about deferred students who are then admitted, sorry.

So on the OOS:
20,730 Applicants (but 1500ish were incomplete apps and given a ‘deferral’ to RD presumably to complete their ap or be denied)

Approximately 4,600 OOS admissions offers in EA (or roughly 22.2% offer admissions in EA)

With 5,000 denied, this means 20,730-4600-5,000 = approximately 11,100ish were deferred (approx 53.5% deferred, presumably this would include the 1,500ish that were incomplete deferred).

So 20,730 OOS apps
22.2% Admissions Offer
53.5% Deferred
24.1% Declined
(there’s 0.2% that’s not specifically in the rounded figures Dr. Graves put out)

She was deferred. I really don’t think they understood her high school. She has a 3.96 unweighted and a 35 ACT, plus really good EC’s. Her high school is just prioritizing their own honors classes (which are arguable more challenging than AP) over the college board AP classes. UGA is not a popular choice at our high school, so they probably just didn’t have time to fully go through the school report and understand it all. Anyway, it turns out it’s a moot point because she got in ED to UVA. UGA & UVA were her top two choices and she ED’d to UVA since they had that option and her major their has a very low acceptance rate. Anyway, we still love UGA and wish everyone else the best!

UGA only looks at English and Math ACT scores. So science and Reading don’t count. They do not look at superscore.

It is important to sign up if you want to choose an in demand dorm. Many mark their calendar and login before it is supposed to open and get in as early as possible. You pay $35 but it gets you in line to choose a dorm. Even waiting a few hours can make a difference. Priority is first come first serve for room selection and rooms go fast. You will get a room on campus, but if you want to be in a high demand dorm, that’s close to everything you’ll need to sign up quickly.

Just trying to understand - when you say mark their calendars and login - is that when it’s time to apply for housing or time to select the dorm? Thanks!!

Does anyone know if you have to be accepted to register for housing or can anyone who has applied do it? My son was deferred but if he gets in, I want him to get a good spot for dorm selection.

You need to be accepted after which you can create UGA Id and then register for housing selection.

Once they open housing registration the sooner you register, the better spot you get when time comes for actual dorm selection later in May.

You should mark your calendar for when registration opens on Dec 15th, and try and reserve your spot as quickly as possible. Unfortunately you won’t know where you stand in the line, that’s why the earlier the better. Rest assured everyone is guaranteed housing in first year though.

Your daughter has T10 stats. Congratulations on UVA, very hard school to get into.

Daughter rejected. Heartbroken as UGA was her #1 choice. 1380 SAT and 3.6 UW GPA. We are OOS. Kind of surprised she wasn’t even deferred. I’ve read the comments about how EA applications are looked at quickly vs. RD get a more holistic review. Should she have applied to RD instead of ED for a more holistic review? Can’t decide if her low GPA cooked her and if they had spent more time reading her essay and tons of EC’s and awards for dance she would have maybe had a fighting chance. She’s devastated and feels like a failure knowing so many people get deferred and they just booted her to the curb.

What you want to worry about right now is signing up for housing as soon as it opens. You pay a small fee and that puts you in line to select the dorm over the summer. Definitely worth it to sign up ASAP even if Georgia is on your short list and you haven’t decided yet. You pay a nominal fee. Some of the later choice dorms are really far away from most of the freshman classes.
