University of Georgia Early Action Class of 2030 Official Thread

Good luck to your daughter! She should have no trouble getting into UTK even OOS. My son graduated from the Haslam business school there and had an amazing experience. Cannot say how amazing really. If my dd was going into business she wouldn’t have looked anywhere else. He stayed for his masters even though he could have gone to more prestigious programs because he just couldn’t see how it could beat Haslam  He is ALL VOL. So if tonight’s news isn’t what you are hoping for…

David Graves posted an update to his blog on EA applicants and included the numbers for out of state. 20,730 OOS applied and 4,600 were admitted.

I have to say I’m a HUGE fan of David Graves and how helpful he is through his blog. He and Dean J over at UVA are doing it right!

The current admitted stats are on the blog for EA 2025. David Graves notes that the GPAs of accepted students in and out of state are quite similar but out of state test scores are higher for admitted students. Good luck!

So 22.19 percent acceptance rate if I calculated it right? I wonder how this compares to last year’s out of state acceptance?

OOS (+Intl) stats for last year was 17, 600 (total 30, 490 apps with instate) in EA. Number of apps significantly increased.

Yes, but they also accepted more this year EA for in and OOS.

Edited - just checked and they did not break out the number of out of state EA admits last year.

Daughter deferred. OOS (California). 1350 SAT. 4.1 GPA. 4 Dual Enrollments, 6 APs (4 current year, 2 last year w/ 5 and 4 scores). Decent EC’s, including part-time job applicable to major.

Daughter accepted, Business, 98.5 GPA (100 pt scale), 1410 SAT, 10 APs, OOS (NY).

Last year was about 23.5% for OOS EA (Subtracted between November 2024 In State EA data and December 2024 total EA data)

Congrats! Just so you know, he was accepted as an intended business major. He will have to apply separately for admission to the Terry college of business after completing the prerequisites. Some majors are more competitive than others.

So my son has a 32 ACT but the 34 in science and 34 in reading bring up the 32 in math and 29 in English. Are we saying they will recalculate the score to a 30? GPA 4.5 15 AP classes, lots of EC, SAT 1350 so was happy about the 32, but now it could be a deciding factor

Daughter accepted today. I see something about housing on Monday. But is there a big rush on this? Since all freshman are required to live on campus, I’m assuming it isn’t as imperative to sign up as it is at say Auburn or Texas A&M, where housing is limited?

you should sign up for housing right away- the order you pick a room and dorm is determined by how early you register for housing. if you register later you will get the last pick of dorms. that could work out fine and you could end up loving the one you are in (probably will). but many kids want specific dorms (mine did), and you need to get that registration done to have a shot at the popular dorms.

Student deferred today. OOS, 1450 SAT, business. High school did not offer advanced or AP courses so no possibility of getting above 4.0. GPA was 3.8. Lots of sports, leadership roles, and volunteer work. Very good essays. Wondering if deferral was about the lack of rigor as usually viewed. He goes to a classical school - it is far from an easy school but no AP/IB/Advanced courses - the school’s view is that every child is getting an “advanced” education, mostly due to small class size and ability to tailor curriculum. Not sure what he could have done differently - we thought the solid SAT would make up for GPA. He is taking the decision well though. He has a number of acceptances but was really feeling UGA. We know things work out as they should, but feel a little bad about sending him to a high school that didn’t offer him more academic rigor (as traditionally defined). Maybe he will get a better look in the next round of review?

EA decision are made very quickly at UGA and driven solely by UGA weighted GPA and test scores. They will consider the school context and rest of application material in RD. I can almost guarantee that your kid will be admitted in RD round with these stats alone.
