University of Georgia Early Action for Fall 2024 Admission

Does anyone have information for the UGA admitted students days?

I would lean to UGA being slightly tougher overall, but total admission percentages are going to be virtually identical this year. UGA is definitely a tougher admit coming from OOS. Clemson admits a higher percentage of OOS students.

In-State Georgia family, my daughter (33 ACT, 96/100 GPA) from private school where middle 50% ACT is 33-35, meaning 50 of the 200 students got a 36) with EC leadership roles too long to list was accepted at Florida, Clemson Honors, Auburn (denied from Honors), and initially deferred at UGA. She did find out yesterday she was admitted to UGA but would be required to begin January 2025.

Have to say, what a joke to admit a kid and require 2nd semester start while also placing other kids on a wait list. I assume this means every kid on the wait list who really wants to go to UGA will also be required to start 2nd semester (assuming they are eventually admitted). Not to mention the FAQ with her initial deferral letter states she is being considered for summer/fall 2024 admission, and no reference to January 2025 admission.

While it didn’t really phase our daughter because her dream school is Clemson, but as parents our dream school was UGA because it would have saved us $160,000 in tuition. That said, I really feel for those kids who do have UGA as their dream school and get the news they can’t start in the Fall with everyone else.

Maryland also does an acceptance to second semester start. However, they call it ā€˜Freshman Connection’ and kids can live on campus and take classes in the Fall semester, but in the evening. They admit a lot of kids that way…not the way most kids envision starting their college experience.

I know starting a semester late would suck, but with $160k difference, I’d offer to give my kid a car to choose UGA :sunglasses:

Def not ideal, but I completely agree with mikeswede. $160k is a serious price diff.

My kid says she has no use for a car. So in my house, it’d be, ā€œYou wanna spend fall semester in Europe? Let’s make a deal.ā€ No question, she would take those plane tix and run.

A new car, a semester in Europe, etc are all on the table, unfortunately, money doesn’t do much for her and she has a twin brother who is already headed out-of-state because, while a good student (3.6, 32 ACT), he had no chance of getting into UGA or GTech.

A lot of different parenting styles out there and I know there are some that would make her attend UGA but in our case difficult for us to ā€œforceā€ the hardest working twin to a school she doesn’t want to attend.

That’s tough. I’m in a similar situation, but at about half of what you are looking at. All of my D24’s choices are out of state for us. If she goes to UF with her merit aid, the COA will be 60-70K cheaper (over 4 years) than her other two finalists, one of which is Clemson also. I’d love her to go to UF and save some money, but in the end it’s totally her decision- have a feeling she’s going to choose Clemson.

Did the scholarship information come out with the decisions on Friday? We didn’t get any information at all so I’m wondering if we just don’t get anything :frowning:

Yes, it did.

Per the UGA Admissions blog, merit scholarships will be released through early April. An email will be sent when that process is complete.

I suggest reading the UGA blog as it is extremely informative.

Please use the Clemson thread to discuss Clemson. Thank you!

There was a comment on the admissions blog about scholarships continuing to be issued through early April. Does anybody have insight into how many more will actually be issued, and what the chances are for getting any of these remaining offers?

My daughter just got one a few days ago–a small one (for four years). She is in-state, so I don’t know how the out-of-state ones are working, but I wouldn’t give up hope yet!

My daughter got hers over the weekend. They did say through April. Mine is unlikely to attend so there is surely money going back in the pot. Good luck!

I’m wondering the same thing. Our counselor felt for sure we’d get some merit for OOS but looking more unlikely now as we didn’t get any in this last pass. Every year the applicant pool changes. I’ll update our status for families next year if anything comes through in April.

Anyone get an email about housing registration yet? S24 admitted 3/15 still waiting…

did you pay a housing deposit yet? that’s the important part because how early you pay determines when you get to choose.
