University of Georgia Early Action for Fall 2024 Admission

U Florida is 90% in state. I don’t understand the comment “FSU/UF give away tuition to OOS applicants”

I’m pretty amazed at how quickly some of these places become “it” schools. I would expect UGA to come in closer in volume to some of these other schools. Clemson had 65,000 Apps this year, UTK had a touch less than 60,000. I find it interesting that UGA had quite a bit less, given what a quality university it is.

I’m hoping this is because more kids think they have a shot of getting in to UTK and Clemson so more apply?
UGA might actually be in a weird limbo where it’s too hard for average students but not really on the radar for most top students. Could this explain its Lowe app numbers?

Yeah. Not sure about that. UF only gives 10% of Applicants any merit aid and they don’t do much wrt in state tuition waivers. FSU, however, does give out a fair amount of in state tuition waivers to OOS students. But then, UGA gives out plenty of those as well.

One thing I will say is while the quality of OOS students going to Florida schools is very high, I am surprised at the tuition assistance given to OOS students. Given the high demand, I’m sure Florida/FSU could get full price from OOS students.

While the numbers do strongly favor in state for UF/FSU, UF is one of the few state flagships who go out of their way to state that they judge OOS equally to instate applicants. This is much different than a UVA or Michigan for example. FSU gives a decent amount of OOS tuition waivers (don’t think this is common at UF). Then there is the OOS grandparent waiver. Not sure there are many other states who offer this.

UTK, Clemson, USC likely have a different type of student targeting them. I think the perception is that it’s more difficult to get into UGA.

Yeah, I can see that. Clemson had been a pretty tough admit the last few years. This year it’s going to come in right around 35% and high 20s-30% for OOS students. Great school. My daughter loves it. It’s in her top 2, along with UFlorida- UGA and VT just behind those.

We really like Clemson a lot, but the OOS tuition is extremely high, even with some merit. Clemson doesn’t seem to offer much compared to other publics.

Clemson also takes many more OOS state (almost 50%), so that would lead to more applications, I think.

I would say Clemson is right up there with UGA in difficulty. A lot of people had weird results there, especially compared to UGA. But UGA is easier to predict since they are more open about their process.

Yep. It’s definitely on the expensive side for a public. I wish it was closer to UGA tuition wise.

Where would merit be found if it was awarded? Or will be awarded?

This is not remotely true. Nearly everyone from my daughter’s private school(elite) got into Clemson. Only 2 got in UGA.

If you look at the thread, you will see interesting results, especially for EA, that can’t really be explained very well. Some schools also have better results than others, so that might be playing into it.

Could be. UGA is starting to be viewed as a tough admit in these parts.

Congrats! Our daughter is interviewing for CURO also. Are you OOS? We will see you in April :slightly_smiling_face:
